The Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance (PPORA), a collaboration of businesses and individuals promoting natural and recreational opportunity in the region, launched the Pikes Peak Outdoor website in March at their State of the Outdoors event. The new site connects local adventurers to all the information they need to plan their trip outdoors. LART, the Lodging and Automobile Rental Tax, and the Colorado Springs Convention Visitors Center funded the project.

"When somebody wants to go recreate outside they might be familiar with a trail or a park, but they don't really know who manages it so they don't know where the information can be found," says PPORA executive director Becky Leinweber. "So what we tried to do was bring all those places to play outside into one place."

The website highlights the local outdoor community and businesses, ranging from outdoor gear companies to motorized off-road vehicle users and trail restoration groups. Users can also find information on hunting and fishing licenses, how-to classes, gear rentals, guide services or meetups/clubs to connect with other adventurers, provided by local insiders. The site also incorporates Leave No Trace ethics to try and combat unethical land use, says Leinweber, as well as notices so people can know what to expect before they go, like up-to-date wildfire information and more.

"There are so many great places here to find and explore and recreate," Leinweber says. "And if you don't want to be with all the crowds, we wanted to provide a resource where you could find some of those other places."
