Marian House clears the air

Posted By on Wed, May 1, 2019 at 10:29 AM

In an April 23 statement, Catholic Charities of Central Colorado dispelled “rumors” that the Marian House Soup Kitchen would close following the opening of Springs Rescue Mission’s new kitchen and dining hall next winter.

The Marian House will remain open to serve families, working adults, people with disabilities, seniors and unsupported teens, for whom the new SRM dining hall “will not be an appropriate venue.”

Catholic Charities predicts its soup kitchen will serve around 150 meals fewer each day, but will dedicate more resources to health, nutrition and “family take-home meals for dinner.” Catholic Charities also recently opened its Hanifen Employment Center, which will host an open house May 22 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., the statement notes.

Springs Rescue Mission’s expansion efforts have been focused on the kitchen and dining hall since the shelter finished adding 150 beds in November, says Chief Development Officer Travis Williams. The dining facilities are set to open in late 2019 or early 2020.
