Colorado Springs ranked No. 2 among Colorado cities participating in the City Nature Challenge, bested only by Denver/Boulder.

The international celebration of urban biodiversity, started in 2016 by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and San Francisco’s California Academy of Sciences, challenges city residents to submit photos of wildlife, plants and fungi  from April 26-29.

Colorado Springs ranked No. 57 out of 159 participating cities, with 742 species documented and 3,812 observations submitted.

“One of our participants took a photo of a rare bug species and was recognized by City Nature Challenge organizers,” local organizer Kim King stated in a city press release.
