In May 2018, a local transgender man named Dashir Moore underwent gender confirmation surgery, believing the procedure to be covered by insurance provided by his employer at the time: Innosource, an employment agency in Colorado Springs. However, after being hit with a hospital bill for $30,000, Moore found that the insurance he was entitled to through Innosource did not cover transition-related health care, in spite of Colorado’s transgender-inclusive civil rights laws.

The American Civil Liberties Union and American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado soon filed a discrimination complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Division on Moore’s behalf, which has finally reached a conclusion. In a Sept. 25 press release, the ACLU states: “The company quickly rescinded the discriminatory policy and the parties have now reached a settlement that will allow Mr. Moore to put this situation behind him.”
