117 fire takes toll

The Mile Marker 117 fire, so named for the place along Interstate 25 where the fire broke out April 17 before roaring east, claimed 42,795 acres and 23 homes east of Fountain. It was 100 percent contained as of April 19 and involved the aid of numerous agencies across the state and the region.

Several agencies are assisting those affected by the fire, including Hanover Outreach Community Pantry providing food (call Terry Siewiyumptewa at 683-4611 or go to the Hanover Outreach Community Pantry Facebook page); God's Pantry Ministries providing food and clothing (102 N. Main St. in Fountain or 382-0643); American Red Cross for recovery from the fire (785-2768) and the Mexican Consulate in Denver for Mexican nationals affected by the fire (303/667-8657).
