The Springs is getting another booze biz with an overt military theme, but it’s not another brewery. Run by Jake and wife Abbie Weien and Phill and wife Kandis Bragg, 1350 Distilling (520 E. Pikes Peak Ave., 1350Distilling.com), is set to put bottles on shelves and in hands in October.

“We’re going to have a soft opening towards the end of October, and then our grand opening on Veterans Day,” says Jake Weien, the distillery’s VP. He’s primarily in charge of marketing and graphic design. Phill’s the man in charge of the spirits.

“This was his brainchild, his baby,” says Weien. The distillery’s name refers to the 13 stripes and 50 stars on the U.S. flag — it’s no surprise that all four come from military families, and Phill’s getting ready to retire from a 27-year career in the Marine Corps.

All distilling will be done on-site using as many Colorado ingredients as possible. They’re planning to open with an Army-themed vodka and a Navy-themed rum, with an Air Force-themed gin and Marines-themed rye whiskey to follow. In addition, they’ll have one rebottled spirit at opening, a Coast Guard-themed bourbon distilled by Santa Rosa, California-based Spiritech, a tasting room exclusive.
