Re: “Fireworks displays don't come together in a day

Millions of individual Americans have been celebrating our freedom by lighting off fireworks on the 4th for much of our nation's history. Today, that right is being trampled by government officials bent on ever-more control. Even here in Colorado it's now illegal to light off sky rockets, roman candles, fire crackers (I love Black Cat fire crackers), and a myriad of other fireworks. It disgusts me that government can so easily crush our freedoms, and that more Americans aren't incensed by the constant erosion of our rights.

Re: “With few shelter options, many homeless will likely reside in tents over the summer

Re SRMs new 150-bed shelter - "even that project won't meet the need." ------ Of course it won't. The "compassion industry", whose goal is to SERVE the poor - rather than help the poor to help themselves - is a growth industry.

Have just finished reading "Charity Detox" (by the author of "Toxic Charity"). What an eye opener! The current service-provider paradigm is a failure because it doesn't move poor people and the poor communities they live in out of poverty. Only economic community building and good-paying jobs can do that.

Re: “Pikes Peak-area farmers markets for summer 2015

What happened to all the old standard farmers markets at Memorial Park and Powers? Half my friends have to go to the store to buy veggies because they can't find a market. They need to advertise or something.

Re: “Pikes Peak-area farmers markets for summer 2015

Re: “Grass, guts and guitars: Your guide to 2015 Colorado music festivals

If you plan on going to Colorado Springs to go to one of their incredible Music Festivals and need discount hotel or air fare rates, here is a good tip!

I used to like sites like Travelocity, but I quickly found the better way to find deals is to go to the second level - those sites like who compare hundreds of booking sites in one single search. You not only receive Trivago or Expedia deals but ALL of them in one place.

Re: “Talking grilling with Steven Raichlen, the Bob Ross of barbecue

Raichlen is a BBQ hack wannabe. Notice how much of his tutorials and pictures are using the technique of "grilling" and not true "bbqing". The outrageous price ($1996, really?) to attend his BBQ University is laughable. I would certainly pay that amount, and more, to learn from a true World Champion BBQ pitmaster such as Chris Lilly, Myron Mixon, Ray Lampe, or Johnny Trigg as they would teach the true art of low and slow BBQing methods and techniques. Raichlen mostly teaches grilling. If you watch his old show "Primal Grill" it does have a nice appeal to it, but he often does not reveal cooking temperatures or times. Just the end resuslts. It is a flashy show but not very informative. I'm sure the weekend event is fun as you get to hob-knob around with Raichlen, but call it what it is, "Grillin University" for $2K. Thanks, but no thanks.

Re: “Roadside distractions

I love Jerry and all of his "collectibles". He was great and still enthusiastic after so many years entertaining guests. I hope he's there for many more years to come.

Re: “Summer Camp Guide 2012

I love putting my kids in summer programs and they tell me that they also love it. It gives them something to do during the long summer days. They get to pick which camps they go to. My oldest usually picks cheerleading camps and my youngest usually picks some sort of sports camp. It really does give them some useful skills for their futures.
