Re: “In Memoriam: The Tall Man Xavier Frétard

I rode penny farthings with him last march, and only got to hang out with him for a few hours that day, but he made me laugh so much. Thank you for sharing this.

Beautiful, and sad. Your words making his passing too real. A rare soul he had. He will be missed by us and countless others.

Re: “First Strike Theatre Company promotes nonviolence with satire and shtick

Excellent article. Nice to know that First Strike works together with other Springs artists, and that they seem to be agreed on when the need exists. NOW is definitely an important time!

Re: “Douglas Herman and Sonia Nandzik want to start conversations about the global refugee crisis

Griffin,
According to your response, the speakers acknowledge that the name of the organisation is an artificial tag line, as they clearly state that immigrants walk a MINIMUM of 1976km, but they told you that they have to walk 1694km instead of the 1500km that a crow would fly?

As to your in depth write up about her LinkedIn profile, you should look into the public EU records or just find the nice billboard pictures of Sonia Nandzik and Jaroslaw Gowin together as you can see from the link below. Yes, you are probably correct that Ms. Nandzik was a secretary for a Parliamentarian, but she also ran for a seat (and lost thankfully) as part of a a bigoted party.

https://twitter.com/marianwasiczek/status/468676163125391360

Why are you supporting racist, bigots in your newspaper and continuing to defend them. Why do you let them lie about the refugee crisis through you? Lastly, it's pretty pathetic that they (supposed experts on the subject) have only just heard about the Rohingya crisis as these issues started in 1982 and the persecutions in 1990. These two weren't even out of High School. You can do better Griffin.

Re: “Douglas Herman and Sonia Nandzik want to start conversations about the global refugee crisis

Hello, be924523. Thanks for your comment.
Your calculation of the distance between Aleppo and Athens is the as-the-crow-flies distance of a direct flight. I used Google Maps to estimate the walking distance between Aleppo and Athens (see http://bit.ly/2ot9A1D), which shows a distance of over 1,500 km, much longer. Further, Nandzik and Herman say they met refugees in Lesbos incorporating that as a stop with Athens as a destination makes for a 1,694km journey (http://bit.ly/2BPwQhw).
Unfortunately, you've made a few mistakes with Nandzik's political background. During her time in the European Parliament (sourced via her LinkedIn page and that ), she was appointed, not elected, assistant to Marek Migalski, who did run with the support of the far-right PiS (Law and Justice) party, which is run not by Jaroslaw Gowin but Jaroslaw Kaczynski. While Gowin's politics are far-right and homophobic, he is not nor has he ever been the head of a party. Further, in 2010, Migalski was ejected from the PiS party for his vocal criticism of Kaczynski. He ultimately formed the more moderate PjN party, a "center-right" party.
Thanks for your comments. Have a great day!

Re: “Douglas Herman and Sonia Nandzik want to start conversations about the global refugee crisis

Griffin,
Your research on these two is unimpressive as with a simple google search, you will see from that the real distance from Aleppo to Athens is really 1208km and there is no physical way to turn that into a 1976km trek. Meanwhile, it looks to be Douglas Herman's birth year and even more ironic is that nearly 2000km of fences have been built to keep refugees out of Europe. In this era of fake news run by our politicians, it is important to keep the facts straight and be able to find a "Milkshake Duck" when it appears. The facts are that the founder of this organisation, Sonia Nandzik, is a far right-wing politician. She ran for a seat in European with the anti-immigrant, anti-gay, bigoted party. Jaroslaw Gowin, the head of her party has been quite controversial and a quick read of his wikipedia shows you what this lady really stands for and what her agenda is.

Your a journalist, we would expect you to do your research!

Re: “Thin Air Theatre Company says farewell to the Butte Theater with its final production: Angel of the Christmas Mine

Not quite sure why Chris Armbrister is credited for starting professional theater in Cripple Creek when it has been a part of the town for 75 years. TATC is the group that has been there the most recent. He has never been a full time resident of Cripple Creek. For him to claim that TATC does not receive funding is completely false. This matter has everything to do with funding and the Board seeing that money being given to TATC was not being spent as claimed.

Re: “TheatreWorks honors Kathleen Fox Collins

Kathleen has been to the arts what Pike's Peak has been to local scenery. We who have had the privilege of knowing her and working with her these last 40 years consider her a treasure and a delight.

Re: “Yellow Face brings social commentary and comedy to the CC stage

I have to wonder, would this resonate with the marginalized communities of Colorado Springs? Colorado College, by median student family income, is the wealthiest private college in the nation with $277,500 in median family income. Now go drive by Chelton and Fountain and then drive around the neighborhoods south and east of there. Would the residents there find this article relevant to their lives? Are the sons and daughters of those Japanese sent to Camp Amache going to Colorado College, or is it the sons and daughters of Chinese government officials and corporate leaders? I can't help but feel this is elites lecturing other elites, and reinforces the perception that Colorado College is a bubble that aspires to claim moral heights, but ignores the application of those ideas in our own community.

Re: “Black Box Theatre closes doors, to be replaced by comedy club

Our family will forever be grateful for Nancy and Black Box. We are so sad to see it go as her talent was a force to be reckoned with. Nancy and Black Box had a major impact on students, parents, and the community. Joy radiates back stage and actors and audiences love being there. They have had a major impact on the community and has also won "Best of Springs" awards both last year and this year.

I'm so sorry to hear about Nancy and the Black Box theatre, but I can't wait for a new comedy club to open in Colorado Springs!
