Re: “Get cheesy with Treehouse BBQ

That's super weird; I got this exact same combo when Treehouse BBQ was at Metric yesterday... You nailed the beer, but the blue cheese overwhelmed everything else on my buffalo mac n cheese. I ponied up for another one without the blue cheese and thoroughly enjoyed the spiciness of chicken more.

I think 'the Classified' section is in another part of the paper.

Re: “What's not to love about The Broadmoor eateries?

Hello there Matthew,

I have to say that as a foodie , I have been a fan of yours since your appointment to the Colorado Springs "Independent". I love to read your well crafted and descriptive articles ; I can almost taste the food and drink . I became so captivated that I I became a "follower " and will occasionally be swayed to make the trip over to CS to locate your culinary finds !

I also have to say that I feel surprised by your comments. You are the proud son of a Holocaust survivor, a grassroots supporter and person that has seen oppression in the world and fights against it..a person who actually built an earth ship (amazing)..who cares about the things I care about..who has tattoos!!!! Why would you so callously sum up what happens to be my family's livelihood (I am the wife of a band member). My children, now teens and very proud of their father and our "band family", were in attendance at the Broadmoor. It was a beautiful experience for our family. They read your article , and we discussed your comments as a family ,,what we call "a teachable moment" .

I realize that the dress code and Broadmoor rules were not being strictly adhered to by some of the people that weekend..and that your experience was marred by these people ..I confess that I was a bit uncomfortable , too, and felt like some people could have been a bit more subtle under the circumstances. I do get your point about wanting to treat your visiting friend to the "hoity-toity, refined international traveler "atmosphere that the Broadmoor promises. BUT when you connect my family and friends to a shit show, it hurts us and it hurts our professional career and it affects our livelihood.

I feel like if I met you that I'd really like you. You probably would like me ,too..I"m friendly and well dressed and have no horrid glitter pants (although now I'm planning on shopping for some). I would like to think that you just weren't aware of the amazing music that went on during the show. World class musicians like Sam Bush, Chris Pandolfi, Greg Garrison, Jennifer Hartswick, Alwyn Robinson,Sally Van Meter, Andy Hall,Drew Emmitt, Vince Herman,Andy Thorne, Erik Deutsch,The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.... and the list goes on. These people are professional touring musicians . These musicians have spent their lives honing their craft, as have you, and they are counted among the most talented people in the world.

This definitely WASN'T a "shit show"..

Re: “What's not to love about The Broadmoor eateries?

At least we were having FUN and celebrating 30 years of a band we love, Leftover Salmon, who has been successful and has brought endless joy to their fans around the world. After 4 VERY successful years of this event at the Stanley, it had outgrown that venue so the Broadmoor was chosen for its location, accommodations, and bigger music venues. I guess you couldn't see past the sparkle to see all the smiles on faces and the FUN we were having. Many of those "hippies" are doctors, nurses, attorneys, engineers, technology experts, software developers, bankers, mechanics, stockbrokers, ski patrollers, EMTs, stylists, teachers, professors, builders, etc. Many are already retired after very successful careers and enjoying the fruits of their years of hard work. Many work at upscale restaurants and have probably served you at the fine establishments they work for. If you couldn't see past the glitter (part of the theme night), then your eyes and mind are one of those that is so closed it makes you much scarier than any happy hippie in glitter pants could ever be. I'll take those hippies over the hoity-toitys any and every time. FESTIVAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

Re: “What's not to love about The Broadmoor eateries?

Is there a particular reason you need to bad mouth festival attendees at the Leftover Salmon event? Perhaps you are a little too hoity toity for your own good. Pretty sad that you have to display your arrogant pretentiousness in the opening paragraph of your article. Why don't you stick to reviewing food instead of passing judgment on people you know nothing about. Says a lot about your character or lack of character to be honest.

I want to write for the Independent! Buy a thesaurus and dictionary. Use redundant one more time. Maybe correctly. It hurt to read this review.

Re: “Silver Pond pricey but Pearl Coconut Prawns a delightful dish

I guess if a restaurant isn't located downtown it shouldn't charge $20 for a meal??? Snob appeal is apparently now a common part of the Indy's food reviews nowadays.

Silver Pond is our fav! The prawns are a pricey item, but there are plenty of less expensive (and still delish and fresh) items on the menu.

The hogan building might be 84 years old.
Johnny's hasn't been in that Hogan that long. The food is standard.

It's amazing how Phantom Canyon has managed to drive away so much of its kitchen staff over the last few years. Maybe management needs to re-evaluate how it treats people?
