Re: “Soil Cycle offers composting services for downtown Springs

As a gardener and composter, I am absolutely loving this. I hope they will consider expanding this city-wide, as well as get Parks and Wildlife to support/spread the word about this service as well due to bears being the ultimate trash can pirates. The bear got into my trash cans exactly zero times last year precisely because we make a point of composting our food waste instead. This is an absolutely fantastic solution and I hope eventually the whole city will get on board. Also, Rocky Mountain Worm Company offers a fantastic deal on African nightcrawlers. They are ravenous and they turn all my kitchen scraps into magic, mythical worm-casting-compost which was brought plants back from the dead.

VERY cool, Indy. VERY cool.

Re: “Skirted Heifer owners win on Guy's Grocery Games

Skirted Heifer creates my wifes favorite burger in the Springs. Two locations will be a thrill, but as Village Seven residents, I hope we still make it downtown often.

Re: “Phantom Canyon Brewing Company splits with longtime brewers

This is gonna be a new one for me, but here goes.

Yesterday, Phantom Canyon Brewing Company, a subsidiary of AB InBev, suddenly and abruptly terminated the lead brewer (5 years employed)and head brewer (10 years). It was likely that it was done illegally or the very least done in violation of policies. The inept and heartless manager showed them the door two weeks before Christmas. The owners gave no legitimate reason, they have been accused of nothing-no safety violations, no inappropriate conduct, no violations of any kind. And for my HR nerds, no progressive discipline, no verbal or written warnings. They were replaced with relatively younger, less paid and apprentice workers, and traded veterans for rookies

Phantom owners paid a final check, balked at providing severance, cashed out hard-earned vacation and said, don't make a fuss and we will allow you to collect unemployment. The owners cleared their calendars the same day to promptly deliver those meager final checks by hand, instead of what 30 days from today would have been an big annual bonus check, which each worked every day of 2018 to earn.

I have about 300 friends in Colorado and would like to urge each of you to #boycottphantomcanyonbeer for the next 10 weeks. This is about how much a fair severance costs and a small portion of what their bonus would have been.

This particular time, from December 10 to Feb 18th will be a key season to make the extra cash that puts money directly into owner's pockets. There are the holidays and Super Bowl Sunday, not to mention seasonal events to be catered and beer to be sold and consumed across the state.

If you all just drank one less beer per week from the phantom canyon label, we could make a dent just big enough to remind them that employees are people and kicking people to the curb in such an audacious manner at such a sensitive time has economic consequences for that size of a business unit of a large conglomerate. These two were responsible for more than $10M dollars of production- made by their own hands day after day.

And besides, who wants to drink scab beer made by rookies that makes a large industry-ravaging company a few more pennies and a couple of owners more money, anyway?

Re: “Phantom Canyon Brewing Company splits with longtime brewers

Noah Kaufman is a lying POS they were fired with no warning. This is extreme age discrimination. Neither had plans to "do their own thing". I know both Brewers personally and Kaufman he has never said anything positive about them he is a horrible little man.

Re: “Maté Factor's Twelve Tribes community called out by Vice

If anyone is genuinely thinking about staying with them or anything, send me an e-mail at

I feel that there is little information about what it is actually like in their house, or what they preach. Spoiler: They are a cult, and will have no reservations about taking your stuff and leaving you destitute.

You can e-mail me anonymously if you are struggling with the decision to get involved or not, and I will tell you my own experiences as a young woman.

Piglatin caribbean and pork belly tacos are the bomb. How can you go wrong with either. I enjoy being so close to the restaurant, but also enjoy the atmosphere of a food truck. See ya all soon.

Re: “Vittles for Vests makes it easy — and delicious — to equip cops

Walk a mile in their shoes. Cop work is not fun.

It's safe to say that there are plenty of bad guys with an arsenal that the cops can't match. Mix your average drunk/high and disorderly types who think a handgun solves all problems. It's dangerous work, and I wouldn't do it for the paltry salaries they are paid.…

There's some overkill in the "toys" they have, but you don't go into a gun fight with a knife.

Security is 50% preparation. It's better to have the tools you need and not use them than to need tools you don't have in an emergency.

Re: “Vittles for Vests makes it easy — and delicious — to equip cops

Seems to me that police and the military get much, much more than their fair share of tax dollars, so uh no, I dont want to contribute..... Save this kind of stuff for health care and schools, they are perennially shortchanged while police get all the toys the want....,

Re: “Vittles for Vests makes it easy — and delicious — to equip cops

Really? When CS showed up recently at a potential hostage situation (one person - 15 or more cops), I saw armored vehicles (complete with a gun turret on top - for what, a future machine gun?), flash grenades, drones, etc. and cops wearing vests...all of them. What I didn't see were the robot bomb detectors, helicopters, facial recognition software, surveillance cameras, tasers, advanced pepper sprays, and everything else being offered up to the thin blue line that seems to be a mile thick in pursuit of a pseudo-militarized domestic world. What's next, a submarine for the reservoirs?

State legislators, local officials and others approve the expenditures and how it's spent, so I suggest going back to drawing board and determining what is really crucial, and stop acting as if ISIS is about to parachute into the Springs and invade the mountain West.

I'll guess you have to raise taxes again because I'm not doling out shit anymore...

Re: “Vittles for Vests makes it easy — and delicious — to equip cops

What? I bet they don't have a shortage of weapons or ammunition, do they? Tanks (complete with a gun turret on top), drones, flash grenades, tasers, advanced pepper sprays, military grade surveillance equipment. I mean that's what I saw when the CS cops responded to a potential hostage situation near my house. Even if it was given to them by the feds, there is serious maintenance and training involved here.

Why are citizens increasingly asked to give more and more to the police and firefighters (how many not-for-profits are there in America now, 1 million plus?)? The police are always clamoring for more money, telling us that our safety depends on it. Ugg...

Re: “Red Leg Brewing Company announces new, expanded facility near Garden of the Gods

Hopefully they build the new tap room so the noise levels will not drive you out. I enjoy Red Leg's beer, but the noise level at there current location drives me to go somewhere else.
