Re: “Amanda's Fonda

Tried it one evening after coming down off the Incline. I heard that it was good. Wait staff was not very friendly, wondered if the dust on my clothes made them think I would not tip. Not a very good selection of beer, even Mexican beer was spartan. Food very bland. I would give this an overall rating of okay if your starving and everything else is booked.

Re: “Poblano's Family Mexican Restaurant

I'm thoroughly surprised that this place has gotten any good reviews. My husband and I went to Poblanos tonight for the first time, and we were completely disappointed. The waitress was slow, the "sangria" I ordered had a milky texture, the appetizer (we ordered the Queso Fundido) was a glob of grease and cheese, and the food was totally bland, even after a good dose of salt. My husband ate all of his food in hopes he'd find the flavor, but I couldn't stomach all of mine and left over half the plate. There are so many better places in Colorado Springs, so don't waste time or money here. Even Taco Bell is better because it at least has flavor!

Re: “King's Chef Diner - Bijou

I won't be back! I could not believe the foul language that the employees use so freely. Everything form F--k to C--t. I was shocked to say the least. If I had been there alone, I would have walked out. Thank God they stopped their cussing when a family with little kids came in. Get some class people, your DISGUSTING.

Re: “Borriello Brothers - Platte

This place is over hyped. They have decent pizza, but they do not care about either customers or employees. NY attitude is one thing but not giving a crap is another thing. I briefly worked for them at the Platte location for about three months as a delivery driver. Before that I worked as a driver for another place for six years. They have bad phone lines so orders are hard to take. They often do not have enough drivers working so orders are late. If there was a problem getting an order to a customer I often could not call the customer because I would have an incorrect phone number. Then the manager would just lie to the customer to cover his own ass. The pizza may be OK but there are other places in town that aren't going to treat you like crap and probably have better pizza. Don't give your money to the folks at Borriello Brothers. There is better pizza out there and nicer people.

Re: “Paravicini's Italian Bistro

mediocre food; lazy, inattentive service. On a Thursday evening at 5:30 there were more staff than diners, however we had to wave at the server for five minutes before we got more water. The pasta was uninspired, the bread was boring, the salad was average - will not go back

Re: “King's Chef Diner - Bijou

This place is extremely expensive and the staff is mean and rude. $10.00 plus tax for a double cheese burger and $1.50 for a side of green chile (about 2 table spoons, no kidding). I got a to-go order, the order arrived for the waitress by the cash register, she proceeded to collect the bill and never brought my food over. After she put my money in the till and walked away, I asked, "Is that mine over there?". She replied, (Oh, fu**!). Finally, she brought my food over and I examined the package. Granted, I was a little disgusted by her verbiage, I made a comment as to the size of the side of green chile(seriously 50ml, the size of a shot for $1.50). She then sarcastically replied, "Do you want another?", I chuckled, and said, "I don't want to pay another $1.50. She arrogantly closed with, "If you're going to throw a fit, I'll just throw one in!"...To make a long story short, $13.00 for a double cheese burger with rude service. Oh, and if you want fries, they're an additional $2.00. These people suck!

Re: “Three Margaritas

Smelled like an open sewer! Not sure if they have plumbing problems or what. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants for mexican food, but the last two times we tried to eat there - it smelled so bad we had to leave. Horrible!!!!!!!! They should be audited and shut down until it can be fixed. Absolutely disgusting smell.

Re: “Borriello Brothers - 8th

Boriello Brothers has once again dropped the ball and shown that they do not know how to run a pizza restaurant.

In case you did not know, they use a call center to take orders, and have (multiple times) had the order put in a completely different location. You can't even talk to a real person at the location that you're ordering from!

Also, in response to the "real" NY pizza comments and claims...if this is true NY pizza, they would carry Baked Ziti Pizza. If you have ever been anywhere near NYC you would realize that every single place has this...it's a staple. Last time I called and asked (apparently a manager at the 8th street location) if they could cook that and they said they "could cook anything." Sooooo, I called them back and asked to order it the next day and all of a sudden I talked to some jackass (probably from NYC) manager who blew me off and said that he couldn't make it. Funny.

This place certainly has the NY attitude we have come to love, but the pizza, business model, and management can use a serious adjustment. Don't give them your business.

If you want real NY pizza, head to NYPD Pizza on Powers!

Re: “Miyake Sushi and Mongolian BBQ

Could be the least customer friendly restaurant in town! The sushi was not very good and the mongolian bbq is average at best. Sad thing is the food was much better than the service. In a completely empty restaurant (big hint during the lunch hour) the waitress took about 10 minutes to bring my wife's drink. We had a problem and asked for the manager. This guy came from the back with an attitude and shouted across the restaurant towards us. I worked in restaurants through college and the managers were at worst decent towards the customers no matter what the situation. Don't go here! If they care so little for the customer then hopefully with such a bad attitude this place will not last.

Re: “Western Omelette

My wife and I treid this place based on the Gazette's review. OH BOY, the food critics at the Gazette must be taste bud deficent. To start the coffee is just bitter brown water. With all the staff hang'en out they still couldn't mustare any service that would have been acceptable. Both of our meals were over cooked, but the worst was the fact that our easy over eggs were cooked all the way threw so we had no creamy yolk to dunk the toast in. The pancakes, bacon, and sausage were burnt as well. But when the waitress finely decided to give us some service she didn't even notice that either my wife or I had touched our food. I wouldn't recommend this place for breakfast at ALL.

Re: “Borriello Brothers - 8th

If you like cold and then nuked pizza, this is your place. I prefer an environment that has a bit more class then some fast food joint. I had to go next door to 7-Eleven when i was done eating to get a candy bar to get rid of the bad after taste.

Re: “Fujiyama

Alas, in the case of Fujiyama, two strikes and they're out. My first experience there was very lackluster. Friday Night ultra-busy, but still with a cool vibe. Unfortunately the service was horrendous and the sushi only marginally better. 30 minutes to order, 1 hour to be served, and no checking in to see if we'd like more drinks. So chalking it up to it being busy, I tried again last night for a birthday celebration and experienced the same inattentive service and mediocre sushi.

Re: “Leon Gessi New York Pizza

I never got to try the pizza because when I ordered they made my pie incorrectly, and then when I came back for the one that I assumed would be the correct order it was still wrong. When I called the store to let them know there had been a mistake and that I would like a new pizza both the employee and the manager of the establishment informed me that I must have ordered incorrectly-though neither time had the toppings I had ordered- because that's what they had written down. Apparently this pizzeria makes it a policy to chastise their customers for the incompetence of their employees. I will not be ordering here again because 19 dollars for 2 incorrect orders and canned product is not acceptable.

Re: “Miyake Sushi and Mongolian BBQ

I have been here a few times and would have to say the food is okay. I would have to say Jun's is a lot better though. The service at this place is not as good as many other restaurants. The young gentlemen who served me seemed like he was out of it or high and smelt of cigarrettes. If I were you I would just either get the food to go or go somewhere else due to poor service.

Re: “Colorado Coffee Merchants

These folks really think their coffee is really something special. While in reality they produce below average air roasted beans at outrageous prices. They use an air roaster which they will tout as a superior method but for some reason most of the award winning micro roasters across the country shy away from this method which is basically a giant popcorn popper that quickly roasts the coffee as opposed to a slower more crafted process (I recommend doing your own research air vs drum roasting). Air roasting is in fact a less accurate (lazy man's method) to roasting. This largely due to the fact there is no way to sample the roast as it progresses and it basically takes most the human crafting element out of the process. The problem is at this altitude roasting conditions are quite variable depending on barometric pressure and humidity and to not being able to sample the beans as they roast (which air roasting does not allow, you just set the temp and forget it) creates an inconsistent product (although I'm sure they would say its more consistent b/c they roast it for the same time every time). In addition, these guys think $1 an ounce for coffee is a good price which is in all honesty highway robbery. The owner and his wife are very proud of their establishment but in fact know very little about coffee and have really not been in the industry that long. When asked simple questions about freshness and how to store coffee they provided incorrect answers. They promote storing coffee in a freezer which they sell in other shops. Freezing beans is one of the worst ways to store coffee which is now widely understood by most serious coffee drinkers ( freezing expands the few water molecules in the beans and generally affects the overall flavor). In addition, they claim to be Fair Trade certified but the website does not list them as members. Colorado Springs for whatever reason has a lot of local coffee roasters and these folks really do fall on the bottom of the totem pole. Just don't settle on these guys beans you can find a superior product for 30% less without looking very hard at all. Try looking at any of the roasters that have been here for 10 years + there's a reason they've lasted that long and it certainly has nothing to do with there not being a Colorado Coffee Merchants around before.
