Re: “Olympic Museum and ... what else in southwest downtown?

NOTHING will work well, if at all, either downtown or anywhere else, until we get rid of TABOR. As long as it's in effect this city will be a dump and planning is just a dream state.

It seems the main reason for building all this stuff downtown is because the local in-crowd of big-money movers and shakers own the land down there, i.e., the Mayor's up to his eyeballs in crony capitalism for his GOP financiers.

Better to distribute these attractions around town to spread out the traffic hassles since there's no money for roads or transit thanks to TABOR. Let Gray LIne run tourist buses between the attractions like they do in "major" cities for the tourist trade.

The USAF has at least $100B in annual tax dollars and thus no shortage of money to rehab their existing stadium or build a new one - where it's currently located, not downtown. Stop pimping downtown.

Build mid-rise or taller residential towers downtown so people can finally have a walkable city instead of having to drive to everything. Downtown is parking constrained, you can't get near Jack Quinn's or other eateries and shopping without fighting the hassle of parking.

Build residential towers and put a major supermarket on the ground floor of one and you'll revitalize the downtown. If you want to see how it works, just take a junket to Crystal City, VA, right across the freeway from National Airport. I know, I lived there, worked there, used the subway stop in the basement and WALKED to everything.

Re: “Olympic Museum and ... what else in southwest downtown?

"There's no doubt the Olympic Museum will be breathtaking. But what else will complete the surrounding area? " This article really misses the elephant in the room. The wonderful new museum's direct neighbor will be the eyesore Drake coal power plant. Maybe drawing more attention to this dinosaur will finally convince CSU to shut it down.

Re: “Digital video providers could be the end of your cable bill

Hey something I want to put on there that will be briefly mentioned in my upcoming article- AVOID KODI.

As I want to keep in my article, recall in the 80's those "legal" cable box channel descramblers? They did not last, did not work well (KODI with add-on's is better), and were illegal.

Well KODI, the software that most of those Chinese KODI boxes are loaded with require additional software and often makes them illegal if not at least VERY VERY close. The boxes support drop quick as well- good luck suing an overseas overnight company that changes names (even in this country).

They you are on your own. Then you are really stuck doing illegal practices to get those illegal channels.

HBO, NETFLIX, etc.- legal??? No my friend, not. Not for long anyways in the USA.

I'd put money on that one.

I am open to discussion.

Re: “Finding cheap internet is not easy

Hey- I get excited when I see a "ditch witch" running full time around my neighborhood. I truly hope FIOS/fiber is coming.

FOLKS!!!!! DID YOU KNOW THAT VERIZON FIOS OFFER 750 Mbs download speeds (same upload speed) for $70 in some markets? It's a no brainer if they don't have a data cap or now worse than Comcast at 1 Terabyte (our local shackles).

I would personally LOVE TO HAVE THAT. I hope things change. Let's all help one another out.

I feel a petition coming on. Anyone agree?

Re: “ISPs are set to sell your personal data to the highest bidder, how can you stop them?

Hey HolaMakina. I get it. There's a lot of $ to be made with this industry. Well TONS ACTUALLY.

I've signed petitions, complained directly to the FCC, and much more. ALL WE CAN DO IS TRY.

BUT WE MUST TRY I FEEL.

I am behind you on what you say above. Not sure about Bernie but I don't get into politics much if I can avoid it on here. This is not the place.

It is the place to discuss technology, help one another with it, and if lucky- change the landscape of it.

If we don't, who will? Thanks for your vocal opinions. You are not alone. I hope you will read more and be a contributor with your comments. They are welcomed.

Re: “Your technological tour guide

Hey so you know friends- I am up for most questions on tech and I will try to answer them. If I cannot, I will refer you or find the information lest you need a serious solution say networking a multi protocol network at your small business or home. Even then.....

Re: “Could a basic antenna replace your expensive TV provider?

Hey BTW- saw some legit antennas for $5 each on techbargains.com / amazon.com .
I bet as good as the regular go arounds, if you know what I mean. Don't overpay!

Great for news, if you like 24 hours of Law and Order (some channel seems to always have it), crazy old western TV series, Cops Reloaded (LOL), and if you are odd like me- People's Court and all the other much worse court shows including Judge Judy (not a fan personally but parents still watch it even with cable!).

Good luck to all. It's a tough world out there!

Lofty goals be damned -- I'd be happy if someone, anyone,, would just fix the streets so you could drive on them.

Recreational MJ not until Nov 2018??

Why would we want to send all that sales tax revenue to Manitou Springs??

Think!

Re: “Reader: Lamborn should have a town hall for childish liberals, then another for the adults

Helen - Shame on you for your comment: Most of these people were females filled with emotion and estrogen rather than facts. I agreed with you that there sould be civil discourse on issues that concern us all but you have negated your point with you ignorance. Please be quite and let the adults discuss - just as you suggested.

Re: “Reader: Lamborn should have a town hall for childish liberals, then another for the adults

Town Halls are a rare opportunity for ALL constituents to dialogue with Lamborn outside of his conservative bubble and without having to pay to attend one his fundraising events (his usual outreach to voters). Helen should stick with his facebook page if she's not interested in the democratic process or hearing other viewpoints.

Re: “Digital video providers could be the end of your cable bill

Thanks Chris. I'll have to read up on Ultraflix.
I agree 4K will be the norm. There's a limit sadly on what I can include but I totally agree. Go 4K just like HD once was frowned on.

My concern with 4K is data caps. HORRIBLE! Stop Comcast and others as 4K does eat up data and I find it a violation of Net Neutrality in my personal opinion. It sticks you with getting their buffet of cable TV line up and at HD.

Thanks for your feedback. Keep it coming!

If you do not like Lamborn, register as a Republican because your best chance to unseat him will be during the primary.

Re: “Reader: Lamborn should have a town hall for childish liberals, then another for the adults

Helen,
Believe it or not, we didn't start out this way, frustrated and angry. We were brought here. All we have wanted is to be heard. Not even for Mr. Lamborn to agree, just to listen. For months we have tried to be heard. Trips to his office, phone calls, letters, only to be rudely dismissed by his staff. To be told, they don't care about our views, that he doesn't represent us. But the thing is, he DOES represent us. It is like Washington has forgotten we exist. The President goes on Twitter and makes fun of Democrats. We get it, Republicans won, but we are still entitled to a voice. A simple voice. After months of ignoring us, Mr Lamborn finally holds a town hall. I took off work because he choose 1 hour in the middle of a work day. He choose a tiny venue so I didn't even get in. Someone interested in listening to us would have made better choices. He just wanted to be able to say he held a townhall because we have been asking for one for months. If you just want to listen to him, as many have pointed out, you have ample opportunity. Maybe you shouldn't have taken one of the very, very few seats. Because I wanted to be heard. The women I knew that were in that room are some of the most educated and knowledgeable about politics I have ever meet. They live and breathe it. They know every single law that is voted on and how Mr. Lamborn voted. Do you? Because if you are paying attention you might be disturbed too. Every vote only serves to put money in the pockets of corporations. He is voting to let coal companies dump their waste in our waterways. He was willing to vote to take healthcare away from 24 millon people to give the rich a huge tax cut. We ARE paying attention and we don't like what we see. We are going to stand up for what we believe in. And if they continue to ignore us, jeer at us, demean us, we will get louder and more unruly until we feel heard. It is not what I would choose. I choose civil conversation. But I can't get that. Would you just shut up and go home? When you are literally fighting for your son's life as one woman In the room was? I'm guessing you might start yelling too. Please try to find a little compassion in your heart. We all just want to feel heard. That is reasonable. To represent us, they need to hear our voice. If Mr. Lamborn did his job, and listened to his constituents, we could all just go home and resume our lives. That would be our preference obviously. No one wants to be an activist.

Re: “Reader: The Academy Chapel is a beloved national monument, you crazies

The church is a building that has become a symbol for the Air Force Academy kind of like the empire state building is a symbol for New York City. I personally would hate to see anything happen to it not because it's a church but because I always thought of it as being interesting. As far as the Garden of the Gods is concerned, I would hate to see anything happen to it as well. To be honest these discussions regarding what is meaningful from a religious stand point are pointless and only add to the void that exists between us. I would like to think that we all could find something more productive to do with our time then to argue about such trivial issues.

Don't let these progressives get to you. They have proven they are bullies and why they should not get power to shut up their enemies. If this happens it will be Hell on Earth once again.

Re: “Reader: The Academy Chapel is a beloved national monument, you crazies

The chapel does not symbolize any religion. It is a symbol of hard work, determination, beauty and freedom. My grandfather was the lead engineer on the chapel. My grandfather was not Air Force he was Army. He did not attend church on a regular bases but he was an amazing man. He has been gone now for over 18 years. When the fires were on the Academy no one said a word to grandma about them being so close to the chapel. She's in her 90s and she saw a news report a picture of the chapel with the fire behind it. She looked at me and said "not the chapel, that's all I have left of your grandfather" with tears running down her face. She is right. Just leave this symbol of hope and joy alone and use the money for something else instead of destroying something all native Coloradans know as a part of home.
