Re: “The mass eviction at Emerald Towers Apartments is just the tip of the iceberg

Don't we have another problem in that middle class housing areas will NOT allow affordable housing in their back-yards? So if you have the money and permits, you still get solid opposition.

Re: “The mass eviction at Emerald Towers Apartments is just the tip of the iceberg

Fact .... the largest real estate developer in Denver, the Denver Housing Authority. They have built literally thousands of new, affordable units in the past decade.

Sorry Mr Wright you just don't get it ..... and the Springs suffers

Re: “Drake power plant shutdown costs estimated

About time for the regular calls for the city to sell off Utilities - from the usual suspects: Colorado Springs Forward or one of the large utility users - Chamber-EDC getting a new Chairman of the Board.

This city is sitting poised for a very prosperous tomorrow if we could only stop thinking so small. This eyesore of a plant needs to stop blighting the downtown area ASAP.

Re: “Springs Police consider reviving photo enforcement against red light runners

The last time this program was in place, all of the news articles about it always discussed how much revenue was being generated, and none of them talked about any changes to public safety. Yeah, we know what's going on here. The recent "stormwater" ballot initiative will result in an increase in public safety spending. Here is just another avenue to get the rest of the money they wanted.

"There being no 1st-hand party to the actual infraction, there is no debt collectable. Check 15 USC 1692 et-seq and the FDCPA. The "red-light" camera cannot be "cross-examined" and cannot testify. " - gregaj7

Great, another barroom lawyer thinks he is qualified to give legal advice.

Re: “El Paso County takes steps on bail after ACLU suit

What the BLEEP is "pretrial services fund"?!? To me, yet another revenue effort for the municipal corporation known as COUNTY OF EL PASO. Time for all of us to quit contracting with all municipal corporations (muni-corps) on this land of The United States of America (the style of the Confederacy as listed in that document of 1777-1781).

There being no 1st-hand party to the actual infraction, there is no debt collectable. Check 15 USC 1692 et-seq and the FDCPA. The "red-light" camera cannot be "cross-examined" and cannot testify. This effort, again, will cost more than it will gain. This is all for revenue, not safety.

Re: “Springs Police consider reviving photo enforcement against red light runners

Wait - so it was a failure before, but now we think it will succeed?

The chief throws a lot of stats around but he is just a policemen, not a traffic safety engineer. How do those numbers compare with traffic volumes? What are the statistical averages? What is the standard deviation? Unfortunately the chief is not qualified to evaluate traffic safety, and he is judged in some part by how many tickets he issues. So to him naturally more tickets = more safety - a correlation that has been studied extensively and never proven to be true. Not to mention the 'empire' building that comes with a program like that... the extra revenue, the extra staff. Police love this stuff whether it improves safety or not (and as determined before, it doesn't).

And let's not confuse mailing a ticket to a car owner (not the driver) weeks after they've done something with enforcement.

Let's be clear, there have been NO comprehensive studies by traffic engineers for any of these supposed "dangerous" intersections. Most likely, all they need to do is lengthen the yellow light time above the minimum specification that they are probably set to. This costs nothing and can be done immediately. Any interest from the council on trying this? Of course not, and that's all we need to know.

Re: “Springs Police consider reviving photo enforcement against red light runners

Do it!

Why are lights or signs at intersections?

It is where vehicles COULD collide. More dangerous than a straight stretch of road.

Lets weed out those who think a yellow light means beat it like hell through the intersection.

Behavior is modified by positive reinforcement.

Start mailing those tickets!

Dave :-)

Re: “El Paso County jail is home to people too poor to pay fines or make bail

Yet another business engaged with the Prison Industrial Complex. Forced contracts for "defendants" should be unconstitutional and probably are. This "war" is Spiritual, as well as physical/legal/lawful. In the name of Yeshua.

@apathetic Oh yeah, this poor poor victim. She was in possession of methamphetamine. Not much sympathy here. It's not news to anyone that it is ILLEGAL to posses meth. So she ended up in jail? Good!

Re: “Spring's downtown bicycle infrastructure progresses despite growing pains

Feels like the majority residents do not matter and only very small interest group does. Not at all happy with the changes dowtown.. Just more traffic issues and less ability to get to shops.
