Re: “Reader: Citizens should question bike race expenses

The event actually received LART monies to help offset some of the event costs such as police, barricades, etc. LART is tax collected from those staying in hotels and renting cars so pretty much paid for by tourists.

Re: “Reader: Citizens should question bike race expenses

Whatever the event organizers paid the City towards hosting this event I guarantee it did not come close to covering the full cost of involvement by COS, CSPD, CSFD and CSU staff and resources required to sponsor this event. A full financial accounting would be interesting - not "fees" for services but actual breakdown of all stages from pre-planning through mop up and after action assessments of all personnel hours involved.

It also would be beneficial in analyzing the financial impacts to the community to collect data on lost income and wages to the Westside and downtown business owners who were not profiting from this event.

Re: “Reader: Citizens should question bike race expenses

Taxpayers didn't pay for police/fire. It was paid for by the event itself.

Re: “Reader: Hate isn't welcome in the Springs

The Mayor was correct in saying he cant stop a private company from allowing a group like that assemble there. However we the people can with our dollars and support. The best thing to come out was the petition to stop it and the members saying they would leave if that group came. Im very proud of the people of my home town for standing up. From what I heard they canceled there reservation. YEA SPRINGS

Re: “Reader: Manitou should care about the people who live here

I've been going to the Manitou Metro Parking meetings for a few months now- since I heard about the Parking Garage idea. It is shameful how the elected board responds to citizen concerns- completely dismissively and with condescension. I don't know who had the idea for the parking lot, but I've talked to a lot of fellow Manitoids about this and I've seen very little support. Business owners are still largely ignorant about the actual project and how it is going to be paid for as well.

It is too bad to see Manitou going in this direction. Why not bring back the trolley! Why not do something progressive?

We are literally building a parking garage when we are entering a future which will decrease the need for automobiles. The trend in all major and modern cities is moving away from auto traffic and congestion. We're going to spend yet more millions on an infrastructure project which will be outdated in about a decade.

We have abandoned parking lots in east Manitou and all throughout Colorado Springs, No Mans land all the way to Memorial Park near the Olympic Training Center. Why not run a trolley, connected COS Downtown, OCC and Manitou- encourage parking in the dozens of abandoned lots along that route- and discourage all parking from Manitou? For our tourists, from I-25 we need an official 'Gateway to the City'- making it clear where they should get off the highway to enjoy our area. This, ideally, would be the I-25/Cimmarron exit- and ideally they could get off here, park and ride the trolley on a controlled route. No more tourists driving lost and too fast through our neighborhoods, no more parking on our streets, etc. Good for homeowners, for business, etc.

Unfortunately, this whole county seems to be top-down and corrupt as hell. Instead of a 'Gateway to the City' off of I-25, we're putting in an Olympic museum? Why? I still don't know. God forbid we build a minor league ballpark.

Manitou has been mimicking the craziness and top-down leadership of its neighbor, and now we've got this idea for a parking garage, becoming a reality without any citizen input. The proposed garage will only increase traffic to the area, and it will be an eyesore. It will be to the south side of the creek- thus blocking off the sun to the creek and creating a further impediment to the 'creekwalk', which would be far better for Manitou. There are really too many faults with this proposal to go over in a comment on here. The only reason I can see for it happening is the short-sightedness of a 5 member elected board and the likely 'kick-backs' for the project manager and said board.

As a community, we really need to get to the bottom of these 'out of the blue' construction projects. The inability of the citizens to provide input or feedback has been routine and it is alarming. There has been more than enough reporting on faulty bidding processes and underhanded city deals. We need a DA who will start to look into the inner workings of these projects and we need to rid ourselves of the corruption which I've concluded is the only explanation for such an inept area leadership.

Re: “Reader: Manitou should care about the people who live here

The current administration seems to have forgotten WHY tourists come to Manitou Springs. It isn't for national chain shops, multi-storied parking lots, or corporate owned businesses. People flock to Manitou Springs for it's beauty, Pikes Peak cog railroad and Incline, dirty little stores, questionable food choices, and it's weird, wonderful, amazing festivals. No one cares if you can't park and have to walk a mile to get downtown, they still come every year! We need an administration who understands what Manitou is all about, not one who only sees dollar signs at the expense of the town itself.

Re: “Reader: I'm fed up with the hate being spewed at the symbols of our history

We live in a time and place where a pshyco can take violence and lives in into his own hands at any given location like a theater after being influenced by a fictional character,(same fictional character that influenced an actor to kill themselves). People didn't tear down his hatefull evil "hero" ,who clearly is a stem of acts of hate and violence in mentally unstable people, but instead continue to do the opposite and support it. Oh, but just because it is a fictional character its ok for it to be a symbol of hate and insanity. Not like it has any impression on people, society and innocent lives right? Wrong. Although, when it is a symbol of an actual person or people who's ancestors are still alive today, who people need to respect because they are an innocent citizen just as much as anyone else, it is all of the sudden okay to disrespect, defame, and tear down that symbol of real people and their families history, instead of resurrecting new monuments elsewhere to celebrate what they choose to, that sounds like the adult responsible thing to do. Its called freedom. Instead they focus on the symbol (flag in Roofs case) and not the mentally handicapped person. Unlike with the theater scenario where it was alright to focus on the person almost exclusively and not do anything about the "symbol" that caused that act of hate/violence and stands for evil. Like children they celebrate the anti-goverment cop killing Purge culture that they love so much and having another person being influenced by some hyperviolent symbol of hate in media carrying out an attack is supposedly the persons fault though and not a problem with the antifa far left culture they are a part of. Thats an "acceptable" form of hate though right? It seems we don't mind openly hatefull symbols and acts as long as its not exclusive to one race of people. Bottom line is hate is hate and it is on many sides, on many sides.

Re: “Reader: I'm fed up with the hate being spewed at the symbols of our history

Ms. Belles:

" ugly displays of anti-Confederate sentiment stemming from the photo of the killer in the Bible study murders posing with a Confederate flag...he Confederate flag is NOT a symbol of hate."

You could not possibly be more wrong.

Dylan Roof killed 9 people in cold blood at a Bible study. He posed with the flag as a symbol of his hatred for African Americans. He was trying to start a race war. Your assertion that the flag is "NOT" a symbol of hate is to ignore Roof's use of that flag.

No matter how you spin the history and the current chaos, slavery was unquestionably the cause of the Civil War. Your ignorance of history blinds you to Dylan Roof's hatred, and probably to Alex Field's domestic terror attack.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of hate. You can defend it all you want, but that does not change the facts. Racists, White Supremacists, and other fringe groups will continue to wave it in our faces when they attack innocent people.

Re: “Reader: I'm fed up with the hate being spewed at the symbols of our history

The events of August 12, 2017, in Charlottesville, adequately illustrate the true nature of modern supporters of the symbology of the confederate flag, and now with the added symobology of the swastika. There is no gray area of historical reflection here, merely hatred and violence.

Appreciate the effort, but I believe the above article is, well, bull shit. Scholarly? I have seen some very ridiculous articles by Science Alert.

Re: “Reader: Straight outta the White House

Mr. Beadles:

"More hate from a reader..."

Not exactly a compelling defense of either the President or your position.

Keep in mind that Mr. Nicholl is hardly alone in his skepticism of #45. Also keep in mind that the President has made no effort whatsoever to reach out to his skeptics. Rather, he has insulted and dismissed them, nearly daily. Frankly, President Trump seems eager and determined to validate the anger of his opponents. Trust me, his disinterest in reaching out to the entire population further alienates those he is bound to serve.

Your post only adds to the discord without the slightest effort to rebut or resolve any of the issues.

Yes, very well stated ladies. Truthful and factual, not like the new people in charge who are unethical, liars, and are about to be exposed in another publication for their dirty deeds.
