Re: “Whirlyball to bring recreation, craft beer to central Springs

I wish him luck, but this guy apparently didn't do much research. Nobody within 3 miles of Rustic Hills drinks craft beer and Colorado Springs is far from a bowling mecca. The only thing being rolled around here are drunks and joints.

I'm so excited for this place. I went to the soft opening and it lived up to the hype for me

Re: “Reader: We all know why the Civil War took place

Are you insane? do you even read or know history? your letter shows you don't get it AT ALL. ok lets start with some history, the colonists came to america to avoid religious prosecution , and a big government telling them how to live every facet of their lives. they made a good run at it got a country up and running , fought hard to keep their land and tend their crops to feed their people. This went well for a while, alot of trade and commerce came and went. from slaves to products. (slaves were brought by over by dutch and other immigrates in the form of INDENTURED SERVITUDE.) That's right they broke laws and were paying for it. slaves caught on over here as a form of labor. Many of the people in the south DID NOT own slaves, only a few very wealthy people did. now to the civil war..... it wasn't about slaves NEVER WAS..... it was about a government coming into people lives and telling them what they can and cannot do less than 100 yrs after their fathers and mothers fought to get out from under such oppression. They didn't like the fact that this new government was AGAIN telling them how to live.....did the government till the ground? did it plant the crops? did it harvest them? then how did the government have the right to tell them what to do? THIS WAS THE MIND SET. and they went to war over it. IT WAS NEVER ABOUT SLAVES BUT THE FREEDOM TO DO THEY WISHED.

Re: “This course doesn’t need teachers?

That's a great way to look at it Dana. I feel the human contact is key to have a well rounded educations. THis is something computers can not match.

Re: “Letter of counseling surfaces in El Paso County Sheriff's Office case

Just another argument for ridding ourselves of the elected Sheriff position. People in charge of law enforcement have to be well-trained, experienced, and show a history of excellent job performance. They should NOT be in this position because they spent more on election day yard signs than someone else.

Re: “CU regents OK funding for UCCS sports medicine center

Medical tourism is not something a destination or a medical institution can absolutely count on like other markets that coordinate conferences. For example, you have a spine issue that your local physician or hospital is not equipped to help you so you travel to the Scoliosis & Spine Center in Salt Lake City to get the best care. Your surgery is specialized and you will be confined to the hospital for several weeks followed up by extensive rehab. Your family travels with you to give support and they need to stay at a nearby hotel. That is medical tourism. If people have the money and can afford medical treatment at these specialized facilities, why is that repugnant? What's repugnant is our government, Veterans Affairs primarily, does not invest the necessary resources (money, people, equipment, etc.) to ensure Veterans get the best care. Completely separate.

Re: “CU regents OK funding for UCCS sports medicine center

The idea that "health and wellness" have become such income producers that they are sources of tourism is repugnant, especially in an academic institution in a state where people are dying in rural areas because of lack of medical care. By the standards Jackie Reynolds lists, a trip to Italy to visit a church is tax-deductible because it is a spiritual activity. Meanwhile, veterans can't get basic medical care in a timely fashion.

So, when are the open space advocates going to say something about UCCS ruining one of the more beautiful pieces of property in Colorado Springs?

Re: “The 'teachers' in this lab are dead

Superb writing Independent! How could it not be? Jim and Bonnie are incredible, passionate, kind and really know their stuff!!! I have been Jim's patient for over two years and love every weekly session, sometimes two sessions, that I have. Acupuncture has provided so many healthy benefits for me. I'll be switching from an organ donor to a full body donor. It would be very helpful to know how to make donations to the lab. I was surprised the article did not have that information. To have such a unique and positive educational program here in our beautiful city is so awesome. I personally am ready to make a donation. Who else is with me?

Re: “CU regents OK funding for UCCS sports medicine center

Health and wellness tourism is becoming a pretty significant market and destinations that have state of the art clinics and hospitals are benefiting from this revenue stream into their economy.

Health and wellness tourism includes travelling both nationally and internationally to destinations with facilities for the purpose of promoting health and well-being through physical, psychological, or spiritual activities.

Re: “City EPA lawsuit costs on the rise

RAISE THE DEVELOPERS IMPACT FEES ! Since the City Council and County Commissioners have been on the POCKETS of developers for over 50 years, developers impact fees are 70% LESS than the average of the front range cities. If someone with courage raised them to equal the other front range cities that would be an increase of $15k-$20k/residence. More than enough to pay for all stormwater issues (CAUSED BY DEVELOPMENT ONLY) and improve the roads to the better standard they used to adhere by. But you can bet Suthers will stay in the pockets of the developers and billionaires in town and screw the general population .... that's his pattern!!

Kathleen has been to the arts what Pike's Peak has been to local scenery. We who have had the privilege of knowing her and working with her these last 40 years consider her a treasure and a delight.
