Re: “Coordinated evacuation amid Waldo fire? Not hardly

I was one of those who " just fled" sometime around 5PM. Traffic in the Rockrimmon area was completely gridlocked and close to panic as it crept along in the blood orange smoke. It took over an hour to travel the 1.5 miles to I-25. I later saw pictures of police directing outbound traffic at Woodmen and I-25, but there were none to be seen during my drive, as plenty of people were still headed TOWARDS the fire in order to rescue pets, etc. Interestingly, I got the reverse 911 call to "evacuate immediately" at 6PM - more than an hour after the orange cloud enveloped the area.

Re: “Local author Khadija Grant empowers community youth

Retired from PPCC, and I believe that Khadija has more passion in her professional life than many students. Not only does she have the passion, but she possesses the initiative to get out there and see how things work. In so doing, Khadija has learned how to publish her own books, cutting out middle man publisher cuts.

I saw her at work at the "Day and Night" giveaway in which the students had to WORK for their reward! I keep telling her what a wonderful and motivating school teacher she could become...maybe second career!

Re: “Cindy Aubrey named CEO of Pikes Peak United Way

There seems to be a rather incestuous relationship between local government and these highly paid positions at 'non-profit' organizations. The pool of qualified individuals must be incredibly small for this trend to continue, no?

Ya, they hate the weed, but they sure do love the revenue it brings them...... get ready for price hikes to satisfy "the man", mmj patients...... uh-oh, what if consumption goes down because the price is too high?

Re: “UPDATE: Tiny House Jamboree to leave Colorado Springs

I cannot quite understand the suddenness of this. It would have been much more businesslike and appropriate to make such a change for Summer 2018. Something doesn't seem right about pulling the rug out from under plans people have already made, many months in advance. I booked air tickets several months ago as well as a room. I'm not happy about this. I'm surprised to see these Jamboree folks don't have better manners, planning abilities, etc.

Re: “Cannabis and skin cancer

Hello my name is Thomas Karol , my husband was suffering from liver cancer, and the doctor's told me that there is nothing they could do to save my beloved husband life. Then a friend told me about hemp oil , i told her that my husband liver cancer was in the last stage that i dont think the hemp oil will be able to help, and she persuaded me to try, for the love of my husband, i decided to give it a try. I did some research and i found a doctor who helped me with the cannabis oil to cure my husband liver cancer and he assured me that after 3 months the liver cancer will be gone, and For the past one year my husband is perfectly okay and he is free from cancer, if you know any one who is suffering from cancer you can save his/her life by contacting Rick Simpson via his email : ricksimpsoncannabisoils@outlook.com, it worked exactly as the doctor prescribed. Re: “Reader: Incline traffic is out of control on Barr Trail

The trail is open to everyone, not just you Carl; mountain bikers, Incline users, and hikers. There are plenty of other places you can go with less traffic.

Re: “Mike Pence plans spin through military bases in El Paso County

Schriever is as "spooky" as any place on earth. Tax payer dollars gobbled up by civilians and military working in the shadows .No transparency and no accountability. So much of this goes on that it is no wonder there is never an audit of all the money the Pentagon cycles through every year. Disgusting.

No to the fee for hiking. Where's the ten dollars an hour for parking going?

Re: “Reader: Incline traffic is out of control on Barr Trail

I hate to suggest this, but perhaps requiring admission or some kind of park pass would help? $1-$5 per person to hike, not unreasonable, and would also fund restoration.

Re: “Reader: Incline traffic is out of control on Barr Trail

This is not unique. Parks, local, state and federal are seeing record visitors; RMNP went from an average of 3.2 million up until 2014 to 4.2 in 2015, 4.5 in 2016. Sometimes you are restricted where in the park can drive now. Visiting parks the last 3 springs, summers and falls has been incredible; good to see people "Discovering" their parks, sad to see what over usage does. Particularly as people are ignorant of or flat breaking rules.

Providing more access by making new trails may not be the answer either. This only accelerates degredation.

What do we do?

Re: “Reader: Incline traffic is out of control on Barr Trail

Have patience; the north return trail is still on the radar. Parking is a bigger problem right now, as is doing repairs to the upper third next year. These things always take longer than everybody thinks they should. The north return trail will require Forest Service approval and an environmental assessment, so don't get too antsy.

Re: “City regulations on fire pits haven't triggered citations in recent years

Rather than focusing just on fire pits it might have been more instructive to look at the effectiveness of city-wide code enforcement in general. I sometimes see code enforcement people looking at eyesores and other issues around town, but never see any of these problems actually get addressed.

Re: “Survey: Marijuana not a driving factor for rising homeless population

Oh yeah I forgot... The weather is not nice. Why you keep printing that is beyond me. The sun shining does not mean it is going to be warm and March winds continue through April, May and June just to mention in case you all never go outside. Try sleeping outdoors on a bus bench in December here, I see people doing that. Really, try it for a week. Obvious that you who say the weather is nice never worked outdoors, such as plowing a field or fixing a broke down car in a blizzard..

Re: “Survey: Marijuana not a driving factor for rising homeless population

"All the Shit That Fits" should be the Indy's motto... Asking questions and expecting the truth from anyone is risky but to base a census on it is folly. People lie, especially those who are down and almost out. They will say anything to appear to be in control of their lives. Indy writers no doubt go to bed early and never go south as far as Mill St. They write about what they see out their office window and dare not annoy the powers that be. Stories rarely have resolution and the inordinate amount of space given to marijuana use can interest only a handful of readers at best.
The claim that the economy is robust is believable if you are well-heeled or stoned. Colorado and the nation's economy is in shambles. The minimum wage does not even have the buying power it did in the early 1970s. I cannot think of many who work 40 hours a week. Monopolies are the rule and the streets and roads are not showing any signs of repair contrary to the Indy's claim a while back that the roads were fixed! The money in the budget for street maintenance disappeared and I am still waiting for someone to look into that small oversight. It went somewhere to be sure. Now more is needed to pay attorney's to fend off one debacle after another. Letters to the Indy are either chosen for print for laughability or for misdirection. "Trump" watch is the least of our concerns and by "our" I mean those of us who can think logically and with sound minds.
There is one industry the Springs seems to have a foothold in and that is profiting from homelessness. Charity and tax money allocated need administrators to divvy it all up-right after the administrators take their salary off the top.
The claim that the Indy touted about being a promoter of small businesses was recently on the pages just ahead of the weekly restaurant trashing defamation fest- the skewering of hard working people by the sophomoric writing styles and queer culinary taste buds of junior reporters on loan from local high school writing classes and poetry contests. I won't mention I guess that "Playing Around" listings now include karaoke which last time i checked is not anyone playing music so please no more mentions of trying to make this burg another Austin Texas. Visit Austin sometime and you will see what I mean. Austin has more live music in one night than the Springs has in a year...
