Oh Carrie, you beautiful bicyclist you! We are so lucky to have you back on two wheels! Wonderfully written! Can't wait for this year's Bike Summit. Here's to hoping we can help many others rediscover and discover the joy of cycling!

Re: “Everybody bikes, or can

What a fabulous read, you nailed it!

I look forward to many rides like you described and truly, there is nothing like experiencing the beauty of Colorado Spring from the seat of your bike, at a very human speed.

Pedal On!

Re: “Meet the new editor at the Indy: Matthew Schniper

To a great full spectrum local newspaper I've seen, through much of Matt's past work, his eye for capturing a scene with a camera, his excellent story recognition and article writing ability and the editors brilliance to bring it all together to insure, I feel, the continued growth of our community's own Independent information hub. Congratulations to all involved.

Aren't Simison and Furda the two mental giants that wanted to give snacks and happy stickers to drive ignorant millennials to the polls? I said at the time that stunt was more self-promotion than community service. Looks like I was right.

Re: “A challenge to young professionals

Accomplishment vs activity.

'Accomplishment' is to have the party BEFORE voting and immediately AFTER hosting a debate between the candidates (or similar voter-education event). At least there would be a sincere effort to inform the target voter about how they might shape their city. And there would be something useful to talk about at Nosh while the band was on break.

'Activity' is to wear stickers, post selfies, browbeat friends, attend a party undifferentiated from any other. Its like junior league sports where they give out trophies and awards to every kid, no matter how well or poorly they actually performed. You know, the trophy you get for showing up.

But the low-fi voter will feel good about their day. The organizers will add another entry to their LinkedIn profiles.

I doubt habitual non-voters who really just want to party will spend much time studying up.

Re: “A challenge to young professionals

You can be pessimistic about it, as some commenters here suggest, or you can hope for the best. Two good things can happen here:

1. Informed people who are too busy or are disenchanted and think their vote might not count could be motivated to give it a go.

2.People who want to go party may put voting on their to-do list and decide they'd better study up. Sometimes we can harness peer pressure for good.

Will a few dazed and confused just fill out a ballot mindlessly so they can get cheaper drinks at a party? Perhaps. Not sure their random influence could be much worse than the mindless party-line voting that goes on all the time.
