Re: “Frisky

Heart-warming, hysterically funny and honest. Definitely worth a watch for the 20-somethings.

If it wasn't for these two-sponsorship in racing wouldn't be what it is today. They changed the world I love so much! Thank you Don and Mr. McEwan!

Re: “Virgin Tales

I just saw this documentary and I resoundingly disagree with the writer's synopsis. The writer's bias is obvious and sadly, he missed the entire point.
His final sentence is critical and telling when he writes, "the religious right is grooming a young generation of virgins to embody an evangelically grounded "Utopia in America." That was NOT the point of the documentary!
Christians, Evangelicals know, beyond a doubt that Utopia could NEVER exist here on earth first of all, because we live in a world where sin exists. And, second, the Wilson family's emphasis is on a loving relationship with God for themselves then, protecting, teaching and mentoring their children on the importance of living a life that is pleasing to God.
To spread the love of God to a world that is exploding with hatred and violence is a very good thing but not, it seems, to the writer of this synopsis.

Re: “My Little Pony Equestria Girls

This movie is from DHX, made by the FiM team. If there's anybody on the face of the planet earth who could made this good, it is them. They've spent the past 65 episodes proving that cartoons intended for girls don't have to suck, so their track record is unimpeachable. However, there is the chance their style could not translate well to the new demographic, but I trust Jayson Thiessen's team to do well here.

Re: “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol: The IMAX Experience

Remember the old tv show? Well, this movie finally pays tribute to some of the timeless cliques of the tv show, and does them well. Thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with this movie and loved how it ended with a future and a positive spin. Word of warning, if you have any vertigo problems, hold on tight during the Dubai building scenes. lol

Re: “The Fault in Our Stars

Witty, fresh, and well acted---While the story is somewhat predictable, the actors bring real emotion and understanding to their respective roles. I enjoyed the entire story as did my husband. I'd recommend this movie to any age group. We are not teens, but I teach teenagers and found this remarkably believable.

Re: “Lord, Save Us From Your Followers

This film is not what I expected. I expected to find a left-leaning film critical of Christianity and I found a basically even-handed look into how Americans deal with religion and politics. It is a compassionate look at our strengths and weaknesses.

Re: “Star Trek

I must not get it. I thought the movie was ticking along quite nicely until Spock (old Spock) appeared and started messing with the time-space continuum. I was lost for about 15 minutes until he disappeared, and then lost when he reappeared. I think it would have been a really good movie if the director didn't feel the need to please the fans from the past. It could have stood on its own, but sadly, missed the mark in my opinion.

Re: “A Story Worth Living

This is the first time in my life that I want to warn people not to go see a movie. This movie sucked. It is a story of a story of a story. There is nothing here. It tries really hard to be of some meaning but has none. It is an insult to series like A Long Way Around and A river Runs Through it to even be mentioned. I wanted to yell at the screen a few times because it was so forced. Here is a thought, tell us where you are, where you are going. Talk about things that happen on the trip and do not force scripted stories. I want my time back, complete waste

Re: “8: The Mormon Proposition

Marriage reflects the natural moral and social law evidenced the world over. As the late British social anthropologist Joseph Daniel Unwin noted in his study of world civilizations, any society that devalued the nuclear family soon lost what he called "expansive energy," which might best be summarized as society's will to make things better for the next generation. In fact, no society that has loosened sexual morality outside of man-woman marriage has survived.

Analyzing studies of cultures spanning several thousands of years on several continents, Harvard sociologist Pitirim Sorokin found that virtually all political revolutions that brought about societal collapse were preceded by a sexual revolution in which marriage and family were devalued by the culture’s acceptance of homosexuality.

When marriage loses its unique status, women and children most frequently are the direct victims. Giving same-sex relationships or out-of-wedlock heterosexual couples the same special status and benefits as the marital bond would not be the expansion of a right but the destruction of a principle. . If the one-man/one-woman definition of marriage is broken, there is no logical stopping point for continuing the assault on marriage.

Re: “10-year-old is seizure-free after one year of cannabis oil

Cannabis oil is really wonderful and effective because i used it on my Son who had been suffering from Brain Cancer for almost three years. i never actual believed in it till i watched a documentary and read some testimonies of patients who gave credit to the oil after using it and particularly to Rick Simpson who supplied them the oil. i am a living testimony to cannabis oil from a genuine source, if by chance you need this cannabis oil in question contact Rick Simpson with his Email Address:[ ricksimpsonhemboil@gmail.com ] Let say no to cancer.

Re: “Reader: Another civics lesson, via Obama-era politics

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Jeffrey, now please allow me to retort...

1) Meddling, self-absorbed liberals ponder how they can get the government to intervene on their behalf to force others to fund initiatives and benefits they feel they're "entitled" to.

R- By definition, liberals are not self-absorbed. Personally, I would just like to see billionaires and corporations pay the same percentage of income tax that I do. We wouldnt be having these arguments about national debt or who is going to pay for what.

2) Although they can't explain where/why/how the government has been granted the authority to force the citizenry to purchase a private good and/or commodity under penalty of law, they nevertheless continue under the auspices of "helping others," while claiming health-care is a "right."

R- No one is forced to buy government health insurance via the individual mandate, but individuals are strongly incentivized to have the minimum essential health coverage to avoid a penalty. In the past, emergency rooms were filled with the poor and uninsured and their bills were paid with taxpayers money. Now that money subsidizes their insurance and the costs are spread across a greater size insurance pool. Just like auto insurance, a well-established precedent, you have to buy automobile insurance for your pickup truck, dont you? This is to protect your financial investment in your vehicle, your house, and your bank account when you crash your truck while driving to Walmart.

3) They decide to intrude upon the lives and individual choices of the populace by demanding mandatory, not voluntary, participation in the scheme.

R- See 2) above, and if people had a choice whether to insure their vehicles, many would not, either too self-confident or too poor. When they run their $250 72 Oldsmobuick into your new $50,000 dually, you could sue them, if youd like to pay a lawyer for nothing, which is what you would collect, $0. I bet you wouldnt like that one bit.

4) Their "leader" (cough) makes utterly ridiculous statements like you can keep your policy and/or doctor and that the measure will save families $2,500 annually just so he can create a "legacy" as part of his of social engineering.

R- Their leader was your leader, unless you are an illegal immigrant, well, are you? Can you prove it? Where are your papers?

5) Those insufficiently intelligent/nuanced to recognize such obvious falsehoods soak up the suggestions unquestioningly.

R- Or those insufficiently educated to recognize their arguments use only worn out rhetorical devices and attacks ad hominem, its old stuff, amateurish and crude, like a playground taunt.

6) Dem legislators support the measure many without actually reading it as part of their partisan subservience to party, not principle or consequences.

R- Wow. That sounds familiar, kind of like the ACA repeal that was voted on more than 50 times, no substance, no chance of passing the senate, or your leaders desk, just an exercise in wasting time and taxpayer money.

7) Architects rely on the support of the "stupid" for continued support.

R- You must be talking about Trump voters. Your sentence is also redundant sentence.

8) The measure is passed along completely partisan lines, thus underscoring how inherently flawed it is.

R- see 6). Dj vu all over again. Youre repeating yourself. Out of rhetorical devices?.

9) Predictably, the rollout is a disaster, key aspects are delayed or never implemented, policies are cancelled, premiums skyrocket and insurers leave the exchanges.

R- You predicted that? Probably not. But I can predict what will happen if the AHCA passes as it currently reads, no more Republican majority in congress.

10) Regressives trot out manufactured outrage and faux-indignation that the tire-fire is imploding and is finally repealed replaced by an only slightly less odious meadow muffin.

R- You didnt bring a single cogent argument to the table, just a lot of name calling, provocation, and useless bluster. But in the interest of fairness, here are some supporting arguments from your fellow Republicans:

You know, I think maybe its easier to run on these platitudes, run on a platform like this, said Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., when asked by local radio station if Republicans ran on repeal simply to get elected or re-elected.

Rep. Pat Meehan, R-Pa., promised that if elected he would repeal, defund, delay, and dismantle Obamacare. He recently conceded, in an interview with Delaware County Daily Times, that previous repeal efforts were a sham.

Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, told reporters last Friday that the dozens of repeal votes were cast in the past without any plan for viable legislation. Sometimes youre playing fantasy football and sometimes youre in the real game, Barton told Talking Points Memo. We knew the president, if we could get a repeal bill to his desk, would almost certainly veto it. This time we knew if it got to the presidents desk it would be signed.

Paul Ryan said We were a 10-year opposition party, where being against things was easy to do, adding that his party wasnt prepared to be the governing party.

The assault on ACA was an exercise in cynical politics, and an outright repeal was never on the table. The arguments for repealing it lack substance, kind of like your spitting angry 10 step program.

R. Jones
