Re: “UPDATE: New website blasts El Paso County Sheriff Elder

It's the DA's office that's corrupt. Dan May went after Maketa, Presley and John San Agustin for one reason: He didn't want Evan Ebel memory or any of the 211 gang coming after him. Instead of recusing himself or moving to another state, May wanted to bring down anyone who wanted to bring down the 211ers. But San Agustin was like a dog on the scent and Maketa wanted him to be free to follow every lead no matter the consequence. The Texas Rangers had ID'd a dozen 211 gang members that likely helped Ebel but Dan May wanted nothing of it. So as of March 2016, May and ass't DA Shannon Gerhart, who likely perjured herself, got the grand jury to indict San Agustin. It was however, Shannon Gerhart, who had signed the arrest warrant for Kelli McMahan then told the grand jury San Agustin "kidnapped" (arrested) her! WHAT?
Number one, John DIDN'T arrest her. But if he had, there was a valid "arrest warrant" issued by an officer of the court (Gerhart), so does a valid arrest mean it's a kidnapping? I guess the DA's office can prosecute any cop for kidnapping, if he or she arrests anyone.
Number two, John was nowhere in sight when Kelli was carted off to the poky.
Number three, a simple check of John's ID card and times he entered and exited were easily determined, but Gerhart chose to lie to the grand jury.
As a reward (?) Shannon is now appointed to a district judgeship by Gov. Hick, good friend of Evil Ebel's dad. If I didn't know better, I'd think this was Chicago c. 1920 - present.
In the end May and Gerhart should be in jail. San Agustin will win his $10M lawsuit and I just wish Gerhart and May did some hard time.

Re: “Hiking Waldo Canyon then and now

Bob, although I appreciate your report (and I enjoy bushwhacking from time to time myself), isn't this report, in such a public format, going to encourage excessive damage from myriad social/rogue trail production? Shouldn't we work toward the establishment of "official" trails to minimize further destruction? Thoughts?

Veterans or veterinarians? Either is cool in my book, just need to know who to invite.

Re: “Loss of a beloved trail in Jones Park is leading to interesting proposals

It's B.S. that they are taking this trail away for a fish that was only brought to the area in the 1800s, ON THIS SAME TRAIL (which was a toll road at the time). That's completely ridiculous. Relocate the fish to their natural habitat on the Platte river and leave this area alone. It's been used for over 100 years by people for living, hiking, biking, and recreation.

Why do left leaning folks always want higher taxes and fees? Where's the accountability and priorities?

Check out these two websites:

Colorado Springs is being taxed to death!

Re: “Congressional District 5 race draws fourth Republican hopeful

Rhea is no different than Lamborn when it comes to women's reproductive rights. His quotes from CP Colorado Politics article on Oct 14th, 2017:

"Rhea said his judicial experience has given him unique insight into how to draft anti-abortion legislation that can escape the usual political pitfalls.

"I am concerned that we who are pro-life have grown too silent on this issue. My wife and I both have had dramatic experiences around the issue of abortion. We are passionate about that subject and it will be central to our campaign, he said."

Re: “Reader: Did we forget what a disaster is?

WOW the incline? Really? Not a disaster from where Im looking. Disaster funds come in two ways. Emergency and then later Grants. I think that pretty much says it all. The first to rescue ya the second to put ya back togethe. But not for Recreation the Incline is recreation.

Re: “Reader: Did we forget what a disaster is?

Ask the City and the USFS if the first stage of repairs conducted on the Incline are already failing, meaning that ties that were reset in soil that has not been properly compacted are already coming loose again. Ask them if the required safety standards for the Special Use Permit demand that no ties move at all. Ask them if these issues were disclosed in the grant applications from FEMA and HUD. They will lie to you. Once the underlying bed of the Incline started to loosen, the only way to repair it is to tear it out completely and start over. Has our City committed grant fraud? Close the Incline once and for all.

Re: “Firefighters back stormwater measure

Every city employee that doesn't live in the city should be required to also pay the $5 by deduction from their check.

Re: “Firefighters back stormwater measure

Surprise! Surprise! The "stormwater tax" will not be used for stormwater! Let's free up money from the general fund to "bait and switch" to firefighters and police. Interesting three out of the four City Councilmembers on the budget committee voted not to put the "tax" on the ballot. WAKE UP COLORADO SPRINGS CITIZENS! We're becoming the new California!

Sometimes I am so embarrassed to live here. But the Indy does a great job compiling the facts and votes. I see no rebels on this list. Well...a few. Nate, the Prices, Gentle... MORE rebels please. Who can help us kick it up a notch! X

Re: “Jenkins buys RBD downtown properties

to the headline: ...of course he does. to the lovell quote: "he already owned most of it, he may as well own all of it" this city has no real concept of leadership, no spirit of innovation, no ideas regarding community development and zero interest in understanding/creating/listening/communicating with citizens; we can only cater to the whim of a few individuals
