Re: “CSPD commander, cited for careless driving, retires

Two groups that get too much unearned deference in the US are clergy and cops. Both hide troubling levels of corruption and abuse of power.

Good to see this incident coming to light. Anyone in the CSPD who gave Cintron special treatment, or failed to report abuse, should also face consequences.

Re: “CSPD commander, cited for careless driving, retires

The answer is easy...He was a cop and cops don't get charged....not in El paso or surrounding counties....period.

Re: “CSPD commander, cited for careless driving, retires

"drove Cintron home that night" cuz that's what we do with someone who is not impaired, right?

@Whynotaskme Sorry, not really true. I know of a cop who got fired just last Friday due to a DUI arrest. Just wasn't in the news since they did it right.

Sad to see Rafael end his career at a relative young age. I knew him back in the day. He was a genuinely nice guy, and I thank him for his service to the City.

Re: “How courts and guardians exploit the elderly and their estates and get away with it

Exactly what they did to us. Charley is completely out of guardianship his money was all gone. He's been home since July 2017 and it took me over 2 years to get his retirement straightened out and I literally had to bring him back from the dead which wasn't easy.with 1 phone call a guardian appointed by the court can steal your money but bringing a human out of guardianship was harder for me to than getting him out his annunity they sold which nobody knows how much the Huffman got for it was never reported to stare so the 1 hundred thousand we were supposed to have got in 2018 Huffman sold it in 2015 he gets 750 a month that she was getting in her name instead if his I had to get a state ID for him and his social security card back. All had stipulation because Huffman had it blocked. It's been a nightmare but now the bank won't accept his annunity check when I deposit it in the bank because they repinched his spine off and made him a parapeligic but he can make an x and that is on his state ID the banks don't think I know the part they play in all this but I have researched them and know the part they play.i just call guardenship know the new 401 k retirement plan for the lawyers so they just don't have to live on social security. The bar are all involved if you can find a lawyer you can trust better hang in to them because looks to me like they are all waiting to get to family or probate court so they can get their monthly allowance from us old people.

Silky:

"If these folks wanted to get everyone on board they wouldn't label it "Climate Change."

Using semantics in the place of science is not just wrong. It's insulting.

"Biggest offenders Asia and India, why don't any of these protesters ever mention them."

Deflection. Doing nothing is not justified because others do nothing.

Re: “How courts and guardians exploit the elderly and their estates and get away with it

@Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging Ombudsmen. Your comment illustrates why current problems with guardianship won’t be solved. Whenever the press reports an abusive guardianship situation, the guardians and lawyers who profit from removing the Constitutional rights of the elderly respond with mertetriciously reassuring statements that more training will prevent financial and psychological abuse of wards. If training is the answer, how do you explain these cases?
1. April Parks, Nevada—sentenced to 192-480 months in state prison for theft and exploitation of the elderly. Parks was secretary of the Nevada Guardianship Association, an affiliate of the National Guardianship Association. She was also certified by the Center for Guardianship Certification.
2. Fernando Gutierrez, Florida—sentenced to 60 days in jail of second degree misdemeanor petit theft. He was also accused of felony exploitation of an elderly or disabled adult, but prosecutors dropped that charge because the victim had died and their was insufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Gutierrez was an officer of the Pinellas County Guardianship Association and a member of the legislative committee of the Florida State Guardianship Association, another affiliate of the National Guardianship Association. According to the Pinellas County Guardianship Association newsletter, Gutierrez was “certified in health care ethics by the National Catholic Bioethics Center and completed his clinical bioethics internship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC. Fernando is currently a student at Union Graduate College Mt. Sinai School of Medicine where he will receive another certification in bioethics.”
3. Rebecca Fierle, Florida—Currently under criminal investigation for causing the death of Steven Stryker by ordering the removal of a feeding tube (that he had for years because of an esophageal condition). Stryker choked to death. Stryker had wanted to continue the tube and a psychiatrist said that Stryker, while having some degree of mental incapacity, was competent to decide for himself whether or not to continue the tube. Fierle has also been proven to have double billed for guardianship services, as she did not report payments received from a local hopspital for services billed to wards’ estates. She has not yet been charged for her fraudulent statements to the court. Fierle was also formerly a member of the Florida State Guardianship Association. Before her web site was taken down, it stated that she was certified by the Center for Guardianship Certification.
4. Traci Samuel Hudson, Florida—former president of the Pinellas County Guardianship Association and that organization’s representative to the 2019 Florida State Guardianship Association conference. She has been charged with bilking an elderly man of approximately half a million dollars.
Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging, please explain how training makes people honest.

The Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging Ombudsmen are working daily on these issues. We believe in the need to have required training for guardians and are working at the State level to make this happen.

Re: “Gold Camp Road to close nightly?

Mr. K, I know exactly why they're doing it! I have a coworker who is one of the few houses just outside the gate. They've held community meetings on the issue(s) for the last year and finally got the city to act on it. The issue at hand is the constant problem of idiots recklessly tearing up and down the road at night, the excessive drinking/drug use, littering.

Re: “Gold Camp Road to close nightly?

They say a liberal's solution to every problem is to throw more money at it. If that is so, then the conservative's solution to every problem is to throw more law enforcement at it. Nothing in this article even hints at why the road is being closed--certainly not because any people are spoiling it for the rest of us.

By the way, are there really thousands of people using this road at night?

Re: “Sheriff’s office says it will comply with red-flag law

I, for one, am glad that our police department will take extra measures on the Red Flag Law. My own brother, a Mental Therapist, called in a “Health Check” call on me the day after our mother died because he didn’t like something I said to him about our childhood past. I never used the words that I was going to hurt myself or anyone else, just, “I don’t know what I’m gonna do…” as I was still in shock. I had 3 days off and went back to work. When I got home, there was a Mental Health Check person from Aspen Pointe, where I am in counseling, a Paramedic and a Police Officer at my door. I was stable and in the right state of mind, so this to me was a “swatting” type of call.
Last Fall, I noticed a police car two doors down the hill from my house with their lights blazing and a police officer with his gun drawn in the dark of evening running up the two front yards to my door. I turned on my porch light and WAITED! I waited until he was at my door and ready to have me open the door for fear I would startle him, and I had no idea why he was there to begin with. I was scared that I could be shot in error! He stated he was looking for a domestic dispute at a similar address number, but wasn’t my house. This could have been tragic like the woman who was shot thru her own home’s window in Texas. My brother is a strict Gun Rights advocate, so I told him he was a major Hypocrite for putting me in this position, especially since he did it cause of his damaged ego! I agree that we need to have a search warrant and probable cause before our rights are taken from us.

Re: “How courts and guardians exploit the elderly and their estates and get away with it

This article written by Pam Zubeck regarding the ongoing “PERFECT CRIME” involving the guardians, conservators, their lawyers and with the blessing of the probate judge is now one of the hottest issues in Colorado and beyond. In fact, we had a very successful meeting today in Denver and I was able to meet 16 families whose loved ones are victims of these PREDATORS. We are now in the process to expose these abusive guardians and conservators on National TV. If your love ones are/were victims of this “MOB” Please contact Luanne Fleming at 303-204-1333. She is in the process of gathering all stories from the victims’ families to be given to the Media ASAP. To all of you who are suffering because of these predators, NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT TOGETHER to expose these PREDATORS. They tried to silence us, they tried to bully us, and they tried to scare us. Not anymore. Enough is Enough!

Re: “How courts and guardians exploit the elderly and their estates and get away with it

I totally agree with you Jolanta! I have to share a very disturbing incident in Colorado Springs.
Last April 12, 2019, an 87 year old gentleman went to attend his friend’s court hearing. He attended that hearing just to give his friend a moral support.
That day, April 12, 2019 this 87 year old gentleman was NOT allowed to go back to his home. Right there at the courthouse - division 19, while attending the hearing of his friend, he himself was forcedly taken to a nursing home WITHOUT ANY COURT HEARING.
Not long after this incident, we reached out to the Pikes Peak Area on Aging multiple times. Their response was very disturbing. We were told that once an individual was put under guardianship, there’s NOTHING that they can do to help. We felt HORRIBLE for that poor gentleman! He was indeed at the wrong place and at the wrong time. How many more victims do we see before we ask our representatives to change the law? How many more elderly people die in an undignified way under the hands of these abusive guardians and conservators before we do something to correct the problem? As we can see from “Joe’s” story in Colorado Springs and victims like him around the country - it clearly points out who the REAL PREDATORS are!
