Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

Bill W, you're joking right? you couldn't follow a simple link?

The link to the board meeting shows the agenda on the right side of your screen and the video on the left side.

on the left side of the screen

push. the. arrow. in. the. video. screen.

to view the video. (on my computer the video starts automatically)

then jump ahead to one hour and fourteen minutes into the meeting. That is where I was given 3 minutes to counter the previous hour of global warming propaganda.

here is another hurricane research scientist's article making much the same points as I did. He had more than 3 minutes to respond....

https://www.wsj.com/articles/climate-chang…

note that his research on the historically low number of hurricanes

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029…

was cited in the IPCC report.

Re: “Protected bike lanes take time to adjust to, as early grievances attest

Protected bike lanes can be awesome! This is a horrible implementation though. Not surprised lol!

The current situation could be easily improved in a few ways. At every intersection of the lane, including parking entrances and driveways, at least one or two more of the parking spaces at the end should be removed, providing more visibility for turning cars. The islands are clearly not big enough! Additional signage and markings that are more visible and bold should be added.

Sometimes making a trail sharing the sidewalk can work really well. Ideally with barriers and good markings. It's definitely been done before in the world, although that would be a really big hassle.

Re: “UPDATE: MRFF calls out chaplain who says not all religions need constitutional protection

It is time for the "chaplain corps" to be disbanded / dissolved. This military tradition is long over stayed it's utility. It is an anachronistic vestige of an older era and of a different type of warfare. It presently represents a weak link in the hierarchical command structure of the military that can and is being abused by a few aggressive evangelical opportunists.

Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

Hurricanes and storms, occurring over a short period of time, regardless of their ferocity, are weather. Weather as measured over centuries is climate. Weather and climate are influenced by far greater happenings in the solar system than Americans burning fossil fuels on planet Earth. The saviors of humanity are preying upon a gullible public, and it is THEY, not Climate Change, who are dangerous.

I am appreciative of the willingness of Pico and Knight to speak out and attempt to knock some sense into their fellow Utility Board members. A rate increase to support the myth - yes, MYTH - of death of the planet caused by fossil fuels is not warranted. And I hope that the evidence Pico presented to his comrades results in a change in their thinking.

Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

Andres:

1. "since you seem unable to do any independent research to be able to find the posted Utility Board meeting video how is anyone supposed to take you seriously?"

Rhetorical question? I only ask because it appears that YOU have taken me seriously.

2. This isn't about my "independent research." It's about yours. You claimed to have looked at NWS data and denied that "those storms were out of the ordinary and insisted that global warming isn't happening. " You literally claimed to have proof of both assertions. "I showed the actual NWS data that proved the point before I made the point." I was only asking to see the NWS data that proved your point. That you expected me to do that research again and find the same data is to avoid backing up your own claims.

3. Asking for your credentials in now way denies you any right to your opinion. Express it freely. I'll do the same. However, claiming to have data that proves your points is not an "opinion." You stated a conclusive irrefutable fact and then failed to show your work. Since you have no special expertise on the subject, your opinion is no more valuable than mine.

4. Your statement that hurricanes are "NOT a result of Global Warming" is correct but incomplete. There is ample evidence that climate change makes hurricanes worse. https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Features…

5. I followed your link. Thank you for providing it, but it does not say what you claimed. That page is the agenda and minutes for the Colorado Springs Utilities Board of Directors Meeting on September 20, 2017. You referenced items 1 and 14. Item #1 is the Call to Order. Item #14 is a Summary of Board Actions (Sherry Newell, Strategy and External Affairs Officer). I searched the 141 pages of the document for the term "NWS." There is no such term in this document.

I'm not trying to be difficult. I'm willing to consider data, especially that data that shows climate change is 1) not happening, or 2) not harmful. That's why I asked you for the data. Unfortunately, it's not where you said it was. If I should be looking elsewhere, please let me know.

Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

http://csu.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?vi…

jump to 1 and 14 in.

That data is official NWS historical records and current data.

"2. "Are you arguing that no one but you can cite NWS records and data?" You misquote me. I neither said nor implied any such thing"

yes you did. You want me or anyone else who wants to express an opinion to cite their academic qualifications in order to be taken seriously or even to say anything. And the entire argument that one side has no data or scientists is exactly an exercise in erasing history and burning the record books of anything that refutes your political agenda.

by the way - the REAL hurricane scientists who actually do tropical storm research and forecasting are on record that the hurricanes are NOT a result of Global Warming.

Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

Andres:

1. You still haven't linked to a single source of your data. I don't think you really want anyone to see it.

2. "Are you arguing that no one but you can cite NWS records and data?" You misquote me. I neither said nor implied any such thing.

3. "All you have to do is look at the video." Then why didn't you link to it?

4. I have erased nothing. I have burned no record book. I am no silencing anyone. I am not denying data. Rather, I am requesting it and you have not provided it.

Is that the best you can do? If so, ... "sad." Indeed.

Re: “Nicoletta, Jaray running for Manitou mayor

Nichole solve a lot of issues in her tenure. Parking has been tuned, vagrant are not harrassing residents, traffic up Ruxton has been reduced by shuttle.
I for one was swept up in the no tolerance policy. But I also witnessed the majority of residents offered an alternative, restorative justice, and almost all turned it down. I didn't, and frankly it was a great program, and Nichole ensured it continued.
As for the tree issue, they were elms (an invasive species) and are going to be replaced by the city with native trees.
She is a no nonsense, get it done mayor. I for one am appreciative of her efforts. I have found her approachable, engaged.
I didn't vote for her originally, but will vote for her re election.

Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

It is an absolutely dishonest argument to claim that only one side is allowed to comment or reference public data but the other side can comment regardless of academic qualifications.

I cited the actual NWS historical records and current data. Are you arguing that no one but you can cite NWS records and data?

All you have to do is look at the video.

The only way you can make your argument is by erasing history, burning the record books, McCarthyite silencing others and Denying Data.

Sad.

Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

Andres:

Since you didn't link to your data, I won't be able to see or evaluate it.

It might be helpful if you would list your scientific credentials as an expert on climate science/data. Since you're asking to be believed based on your personal experience with the data, it seems reasonable to ask for your background that would make your opinion credible and reliable.

Re: “Utilities Board agrees to add more solar after colorful public comment

Gustaf and Bill, what the reporter failed to include in the article was that I showed the actual NWS data that proved the point before I made the point.

So do you have the intellectual courage to even see the data? or are you a Data Denier?

Re: “Two El Paso County jail inmates die in last two days

Why didn't they take him back to Memorial hospital, 2 miles from C.J.C. is just as close to the hospital as it is to the jail. How and what did they think they could do for him in their sally port??? And why would the doctors release him if he wasn't ok at that point??? Come on...

Re: “The road to Rosemont is shot to pieces

This is so typical of todays people. Note I didn't say today's 'shooters.' We see this crap everyday, on everyway. If it's not empty shotgun shells, it's empty fast food bags, cigarette packs, water bottles, diapers, etc.; they all line the roads from people who just don't think, nor give a shit. Nobody looking? Throw that shit right out the window, someone else will clean it up! Dat's what I pay taxes for right? Damn right beeitches! In my opinion, it all comes down to a lack of morality according to the upbringing of todays children. They don't care because we taught them not to care. Are they going to get a trophy for being a good citizen? Nope. So, Fuck it.

Re: “Protected bike lanes take time to adjust to, as early grievances attest

As past bike projects in this city demonstrates, safety and the interests of the citizens are not important. In other bike projects it was easily demonstrated the city's cited case studies did not apply to the scenario they were used to justify. Relevant case studies suggested the design was net more dangerous for cyclists. The response? The mayor publicly criticized the citizens for voicing these relevant facts and the media and city goes on a lying campaign to back it up. No where in here is the interests of the citizens of this city regardless of their mode of transportation.
