Re: “Framing the Garden of the Gods

Related to former councilwoman Martin's comment:

"Jan Martin says the way the frame was handled demonstrates why it's important to get public input on such matters."

When Ms. Martin was on council, with Scott Hente, Randy Purvis, Tim Leigh and others - going way back to even when Margie Vasquez was on city council, 'public input' was something more than just a buzzword phrase. There were events, I really believe, that would have had different outcomes had 'public input' not been considered important and considered by those councils of their time.

Today, is 'public input' really worth even as much as a bucket of warm spit? To quote John Nance Garner?

The public input was to allow recreational marijuana. How is that working?

The public, when they finally heard about C4C that is now possibly C2C, gave their input and if I recall, 'public input' did not favor C4C at all!

The Stawberry Patch drama that is still ongoing. Public input was definitly against the swap.

How is that working out?

We stopped using the word 'fountain pen' years ago because it was somewhat irrelevent in that hardly anyone actually uses a fountain pen.

Perhaps the word 'public input' is one that should no longer be used? Hell, it's a word that gets used 120 times a day or so but it is like a pen with no ink coming out! There but useless.

Re: “Framing the Garden of the Gods

This so much reminds me of the early 50's - - when Colorado Springs had nothing going for it but it's beautiful scenery for revenue - - and people depended on tourism only from May to October hoping to be able to squirrel away enuff nuts and bucks to make it though the winter.

Fort Carson was here. Ent Air Force Base was here. And Peterson. But they were small and provided 'keep the heat on' revenue only for the locals. Norad was not. That did not come till around 54 or so as a solid, squat block windowless building located at what is now the SW corner of the parking garage at Memorial Hospital facing Boulder street.

Then, with the Interstate coming, there was opened a quarry to dynamite rocks and make gravel. Leaving that immense ugly white scar on the side of the mountains - the very mountains that people drove and flew hundreds of miles to see - and to enjoy - and to spend the money the tourist town people had to live on as their only source of revenue. Potentially threatening what was their only source of making a living at the time! Really!

I remember sitting with my Dad at the BJ Tastee Freeze just 'lickin cones' in 1957 when he explained that ugly scar on the side of the beautiful mountain:

"Knucklehead, these people probably should not be allowed to govern themselves!"

(Same Tastee Freeze that is still there at Union and Palmer Park across from what was then East Junior High School)

Janet: you 'lick cones' at the Tastee Freeze? Maybe Dad saw you.

Re: “Reader: Gender-cleansing our political landscape is essential

Keep hating on whitey we'll see ya in the next election you racist scum. Are sweden and switzerland racist for having mainly white people in their governments too? Im sure you liberals will get your cultural marxist utopia one day and you will see it is hell and you have played right into the hands of the evil power structure that you hate so much. If you dont understand what you hate you might become it. Look at Europe they are losing their identity and their culture due to multiculturalism. Be careful what you wish for.

Oh but it backfired when al franken had to resign didnt it? Who is the next democrat scumbag to get ousted from office i wonder? We will see what happens in 2018 you cocky liberals are in for yet another harsh dose of reality. Dont like the taste of your own medicine do you?

This article is a racist and sexist disgusting piece of literature. I would laugh my ass off except there are people in the springs who buy into this garbage liberal dogma like Trub and its really sad. I hope you get the hate out of your heart. Btw women have been voting for how long now but they dont want to take the blame for any of our goverment shortcomings just blame "white men". Got it. Crystal clear.

Re: “Strawberry Fields appraisal needs fresh look, citizens say

We who live on the backside of the hotel were supposed to get beautiful Brownstones as a nice transition to their convention center back in 2004. But take a look at what is happening now. A seven acre dirt parking lot has existed since then and the nearby residents must deal with their trash and dirt, hear their trucks, shuttles and their chaos. Plans change and our city government does not care what happens to residents in the area. Acrimony exists and will continue to haunt that hotel. A residential neighborhood surrounds them that must not be ignored.

Re: “Philip Anschutz's influence knows no bounds

Take a look at what the neighborhood looks like on the backside of the convention center. I was fooled into thinking the billionaire would make things beautiful. But it's all about them. Nothing else. Ever. The hotel was once a beautiful gem so many of us adored. Now we look at their trash, deal with their dirt on our properties, hear their buses and shuttles and their chaos. These are not good business practices especially while situated in a residential neighborhood. Our acrimony will deservedly continue to haunt them.

Re: “Reader: Sorry, not sorry

Mike B:

7 years? I thought he had 4 (if he doesn't self immolate before that).

If you think he will be reelected in 2020, you haven't been paying attention. He'll no doubt get his 35% base, including you. Beyond that, though, he has insulted, aggravated, and energized everyone else. They will show up to vote against him in 2020.

I didn't vote for Trump (surprise, right?). But once elected, he has to serve and govern. He's doing that, and it was entirely foreseeable how that would work out (it didn't and it won't). We're doomed to 4 years of chaos, cronyism, petty pouting, and a very large dose of incompetence, but voters will have had their fill long before 2020.

Did you hear the one about the Democratic Senator in Alabama? No. It's not a joke. It's a preview of elections under the leadership of President Trump.

Re: “Undercover officers take the stand to explain infiltration of local Socialists

history is repeating itself - during the late 50s and throughout the 60s the fbi infiltrated groups that threatened the status quo - the purpose was to discredit and disrupt any challenges to the establishment. today we have a republican party that declares open class warfare with its tax cuts for the rich and a democrat party that seems satisfied with claiming a moral high ground thus providing the people with justifiable reason to pursue political parties which are the only opposition party in town therefore the state can be exhibited to use the same tactics as were used by cointelpro of the 60s. firing these officers is the tip of the iceberg.

Re: “Former El Paso County Sheriff’s Office notary says top officials ordered falsifying of hundreds of oath affidavits

Pam Zubeck, great job in following through with this. I hope the citizens of El Paso County put pressure on the sheriff and county officials including the DA, if he is implicated. I'm also pleased to see that your employers followed through with an attorney to back you up. The newspaper company I recently left never had my back!
