Re: “Reader: Suthers' quote is a staggering piece of irony

The task at hand is simply to make sure that Mr. Suthers does not serve a second term. The City of Colorado Springs deserves much better.

Re: “Reader: Suthers' quote is a staggering piece of irony

Suthers is an idiot, giving our land to some billionaire! This guy won't even let us vote on properly funding our parks! Then he will turn around and say how billionaires owning the parks will be better stewart's of the land. With this guy as our mayor he has clearly shown us how to do the "back door deal". I hope Suther and his little group Springs Forward gets a clue, we don't like you we think you are corrupt we will be making sure that we vote you out!
PS don't you dare try to give yet another one of Colorado Springs assets to a away to Anschutz! Rosemont reservoir!!!

Re: “Reader: Suthers' quote is a staggering piece of irony

Suthers is a whore to a bully of a billionaire ignoring the thousands of citizens whom put him in office. Anshutz is a bully, wants Rosemont reservoir to water his golf courses. We can only speculate Suthers was offered a higher paying job in the Anshutz empire to screw the public on the Strawberry Fields property and the process. Do we really need "Johnny come lately " billionaires screwing over Colorado Springs with "Colorado Springs Forward" a despicable dark money PAC and putting our Mayor on puppet strings. Suthers you whore ..... stop having dinners with a bully of a billionaire and represent us !

Re: “Reader: Public media is essential to democracy

If you ask an extreme right winger, he will aver, "public broadcasting is indeed the handmaiden of the Progressive Left." If you ask a progressive, he will tell you public broadcasting is a tool of the moderate right.

Re: “Reader: Suthers' quote is a staggering piece of irony

Well, he's right, but it's kind of too little, too late. We have a handful of interesting buildings in Colorado Springs that aspire to match the scenery, but most of our built environment is completely disposable and was built with that intent. Outside of the Old North End and around downtown, most of our housing and commercial stock is not ageing well. Take away Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, and you could be anywhere in the country, most likely Stockton. Maybe if we had code based design, we could get a better aesthetic, but that would mean the City Council would have to learn about it, and so would the planning commission, and then advocate for it. But the last piece of large developable land in the county is Banning-Lewis, and that's all set to be classic sprawl, no different from anywhere else in the country, so we're stuck. Tava (Pikes Peak) deserved better. Could we give it to Switzerland?

Yet the mayor and the planning commission are OK with a 8 to 10 story hospital building in the line of sight of Pikes Peak. It's great that PlanCOS says we value our majestic views but council sure didn't when they approved this infill build.

Ironical, indeed. Stegner would be rolling in his grave if he heard this Orwellian statement from The Broadmoor's mayor.

Re: “Electronic add-ons provide more streaming options than you could ever watch on cable or satellite

I've really enjoyed your articles on getting rid of my cable. It's been tough but I followed your ideas. I am still guessing and figuring this out. The cable company (I'm not in CO Springs these days but still miss it) made it tough but I got to just cable and I like what I have so far.

I got an antenna, a roku, netflix, and I'm happy. I like the free stuff on the roku but you have to spend a lot of time finding the stuff you like it seems.

I wish you would spend more time on this as i keep seeing more options and products. Guess i have to read the other computer columns but great start. I don't like the pc magazines online sometimes as they are too short and not enough options.
thx!

Re: “Electronic add-ons provide more streaming options than you could ever watch on cable or satellite

No argument from me (Bri the IT Guy). If you have in place something that already "gets you there", why pay more?

I still believe that the Roku is the "Cadillac" of TV stations/free stations/ease of use.

However, why spend the money and you are probably already adept in what you are doing.

Cheers!

Re: “Reader: Public media is essential to democracy

when the greedy rich own the media you get the geezerette... this must be what johnny is speaking of. thankfully there is this independent source of news where this village can gain knowledge. the other major source of information that is in danger is the internet. they are trying desperately to control it and we must resist the takeover.

Re: “Reader: Public media is essential to democracy

Public media are not necessary and become harmful to democracy when they become the handmaiden of one part of the political spectrum.

I know you mentioned XboxOne but for gamers it really is a good way to go I believe. Well at least for us that like to play games online. You get a lot of option once you are subscribed. I realize that is more money but I pay for it anyways so I can play online. The system is not complete without it really.

Re: “Digital video providers could be the end of your cable bill

I've been trying out DirecTV Now. You can get a subset of channels via the Internet. It's more money than SlingTV. I like the line up more but it has some problems at times. Also issues with the big channels like cbs and abc.
I may drop it but it's good to see there are options.

Re: “Reader: Who cares how much taxes Trump paid!

I hope the guy paid nothing. That way everybody gets what they want. The social justice warriors can complain about him not paying his fair share, while the anti-tax folks can get lathered up about the sorry state of our income tax laws.

Re: “Reader: Who cares how much taxes Trump paid!

The return he should or was shown when he was running showed 0 taxes paid. Yes its legal yes those low income folk that pay nothing is legal as well. Point is the hypocrisy of letters like this as well as the rhetoric from the right.

Re: “Reader: Who cares how much taxes Trump paid!

It's not "did he pay taxes" it's what they reveal about his conflicts of interest and potential monetary gain from his unique position to influence legislation and EOs that will directly benefit him.
The party that has railed about transparency and accountability for years now seems to see nothing wrong with their candidate who refuses to live up to that stance.
We heard GOP talking heads rant on and on about all the Obama vacations, yet nothing with the extravagant amount spent by Trump for his numerous weekend getaways to his for-profit resort.
Trump is not going to "fix the country" for anyone not holding giant financial portfolios. If you think he gives one ounce of thought toward the plight or life of middle/poor America, you are sadly mistaken.
He has DECADES of history of his corrupt ways including not paying contractors, hiring foreign workers (because he can pay them less than he would have to pay Americans) and various other shady things.
I applaud you for your faith, but I also wish you would take a moment to ask yourself if you would be just as supportive of the EXACT SAME actions and lack of transparency by any other person in that office.
(and let me guess, there will be a "Hillary!" "Obummer!" reply...)
