Re: “Choice of lesbian commandant at Air Force Academy stirs debate

Now, when did the General actually "marry" her current "wife"? If it was before DADT, she flat out lied. But, no matter, LGBTXYZLMNOPQ persons have donned the hood of "victimhood" and must be protected and promoted and you better fully accept and endorse their "lifestyle" or you are a bigot, racist, sexist, homophobe, and on and on it goes......YOUR beliefs be damned!! Even if one of your beliefs is the exact same belief nationally proclaimed by Hilary Clinton and Baraaak Obama: marriage is between a man and a woman!!

So now the Air Force and the Air Force Academy are going to hold up the General and "her wife" as totally wonderful role models for the 4,000 outstanding young men and young women cadets at my alma mater. I would bet that there are thousands of parents who thought they were sending the kids off to Colorado Springs to get a great moral education! Pity!

Re: “Colorado Springs' 2C road measure takes some heat

If my memory serves me correctly the original proposal for the street paving bid did include a 5 year warranty in the specs. What happened next is typical of a city that always puts the special interests before those of the citizens - the contractors raised a big stink and said they could not possibly make a big enough profit if they guaranteed the work for 5 years. City Council immediately caved to their demands. I don't need math to tell me if you let the bidders write your specifications and t.hen award to the lowest bidder the biggest winners are not the tax payers but the private contractors who have set themselves up with job security.

Re: “Sexual assault victims say Air Force Academy uses mental health counseling to get rid of them

So, where does the process begin to remedy this awful situation at the Air Force Academy and likely the other Military Academies? While this problem "seems" more prevalent at AFA, how does anyone know if all sexual assaults are being reported at the USMA and USNA? We can be sure fear is a common denominator at each academy.

The next step MUST be taken to authenticate what is in this article which will not be easy. If, and I mean IF people's medical records have been falsified and cadets have been railroaded out of school, how can you trust anything coming from the AFA regarding any of this? You can be sure they will do everything to stonewall the release of information because of privacy laws, have records go missing, and anything else they can throw at you.

I am a retired Air Force NCO who was proud to serve so I'm no hater when it comes to the military. Do I take everything in this article as the gospel? No. But it's not totally fake news, either. This article absolutely sickened me because I have the highest regard for our military academies, warts and all, but this situation, if true, is way beyond warts and all. It's criminal and needs to be treated as such and needs to go back at least 10 years. You can be sure this attitude towards sexual assault and reporting sexual assault goes back much longer.

Re: “Colorado Springs' 2C road measure takes some heat

Actually Gary,I think many posed the same 'warranty' question you have asked. It was asked often.

The clue as to why the measure passed in what is basically a 'warranty free manner' is best found by logging onto the the City Website - going to Elections - going to "Nov 03 2015 Special Municipal Election" then - - going to Issue 2C - - going to "Springs Citizens Building the Future"

Why the hell would I want to offer a long-term warranty on my work when I know that the amount of my campaign contributions can sway the decision toward my NOT having to offer a warranty?

Re: “Colorado Springs' 2C road measure takes some heat

Councilman Bill Murray is right in asking for a longer warranty and he's also right that the city will never get ahead of the problem and mathematically it's impossible. The city will re-surface (note not re-build) 215 lane miles this season. Divide 215 into the total lane miles of the city and you'll arrive at the total numbers of years it will take to do one cycle of re-surfacing and not re-building roads. This will be longer than the life of the current tax and if extended, longer than the next tax. Also, that works out to $232,558/lane mile. Kind of pricey isn't it?
According to the Federal Highway Administration a two year "warranty" is the MINIMUM with no performance. In other words, the road can fail at anytime because a performance warranty was not required. Performance warranties begin at increments of 5, 10, 15, or 20 years. Detroit requires a 20 year performance warranty. The Europeans are going for 35 years. Why isn't Colorado Springs requiring a 20 year warranty?
I can understand the mayor's desire to stretch the dollars but what is gained if after year three the city has to go back and redo the roads of year one? i.e. No. Nevada between Fillmore and Garden of the Gods.
The question that arises now is, "Did the mayor get bad advice regarding road warranties or did he buy into a "tradition?" i.e. "We've alway done it that way." or "Two year is industry standard." If so, the driving public (aka taxpayers) got taken for a ride.
BTW The Centinnial extension is being built in a slide area. Look for that road to be a maintence nightmare because a 20 year performance warranty will not be part of the specifications.

Re: “Air Force Academy has a distorted view of sexual assault says former employee

The US Air Force has no mission. We spend gigabucks training people to do little or nothing to maintain our national defense. The Air Force jumps to address scandal after scandal because the troops are bored with nothing to do. Fold the Air Force back into the US Army from whence it came and we can save gigabucks scaling down an Air Force with nothing to do into an Army with lots to do. The only folks firing weapons at an enemy in the Air Force are the drone pilots sitting in air conditioned cubicles.

Kitty, You're exactly right. Stand by, everyone, for the demonization of everyone involved in the effort to shed light in this corrupt institution, just like they have done to the victims.

Davis, The only post without facts was yours. I wondered how long it would take for the 'pro-rape' team to rear its ugly head. Congratulations - it didn't take long at all.

You are so far on the wrong side of this issue you can't even see the truth from there.

Re: “Colorado Medicaid changes its policy on opioid drugs in response to crisis

What these government and agencies are doing is faulting chronic pain disease patients and our physicians for the overdoses and deaths of addicts.
With 100 million people who have a chronic pain disease, patients who become addicted to their medications is actually very low [.02-.6%]. We have legitimate prescription medications for diseases. The crisis is they are targeting patients and physicians. Physicians who still are trying to treat our chronic diseases. They are not allowing our physicians to treat us humanely, effectively and to the best of their ability. They are trying to doctor us all, without having a medical license. They are policing our physicians.
They need divert their efforts, from legitimate patients, to focus on the illegal fentanyl and heroin manufacturers and distributors, also, methamphetamine, cocaine and all other illegal drugs.
This distorted thinking and the false presumptions, that the cause of the opioid epidemic, is due to the overprescribing of much needed and beneficial medications, is causing havoc among physicians and patients. The hands of our physicians to treat us are being tied, due to the unfed imental and unfair laws they are trying to force upon them. We have our privacy invaded. There is no longer patient/doctor confidentiality.
The reports are stating how the number of prescription opioid medications have dropped, fairly significantly. Overdose deaths are on the rise. Logical thinking and knowledge at this point would tell you, this system is not working. It is the use of ILLEGAL opioids that are fueling this epidemic. Nowhere in the studies, headlines, reports or bills, are there talk, discussions or input, of the effects these laws will have on chronic pain disease of our physicians.
We pain disease patients are being abandoned, discriminated against and left to suffer with debilitating pain due to the stigma and laws being passed to condemn us and our physicians.
This targeting is wrong, it's discrimination against legitimate chronic pain disease patients, who use our MEDICATIONS responsibly.

Re: “Sexual assault victims say Air Force Academy uses mental health counseling to get rid of them

Clearly using falsified records and mental diagnosis to control the narritive and provide a cover for the rape culture that seems to be a way of life at Air Force Academy. A whole system designed to discredit survivors and discourage reporting to protect attackers alnd obscure the Academy's real record of sexual assault means the institution itself is rotten. This is not a case of a few bad apples. This policy comes from the top. This fish stinks from the head.

Re: “Air Force Academy has a distorted view of sexual assault says former employee

The Academy continues to mistreat victims, and is now mistreating these whose job it is to care for and support them? What was reported in these articles is likely the tip of the iceberg, there is likely much more harm being done., all in the name of keeping the highly polished reputation of USAFA intact.
USAFA will justify their actions of course, and discredit the victims and those who speak up to support them rather than admit their wrongdoing, and fix what is so broken.

Re: “Sexual assault victims say Air Force Academy uses mental health counseling to get rid of them

Mr. Davis,
You are incorrect in all your commentary. Per the FBI sexual assault is falsely reported no more than any other crime with about a 6 percent or less percent rate of false reporting. Your assertion regarding military rates of false reporting are not true. No such studies exist that show any findings of higher rates of false reporting in military populations.
The author has no "spin" on this article other than factual reporting. She has verified her story with carefully researched facts. This is a well written and thoughtful article..
Here is a researched fact for you, victims of sexual assault are frequently misdiagnosed with personality disorders. This often happens due to therapists who are not familiar with symptoms of trauma or the neurobiology of it., as well as intentional diagnosis given to have military members who are victims discharged from active duty. Neither of those are good outcomes. Thankfully there are therapies that are very effective in treatment of sexual assault and military sexual, assault, assault trauma., but it takes a skilled and educated provider to do so.
Thank you for your commentary as it is an opportunity to dispel misconceptions , myths, and untruths that are prevalent.

Re: “Sexual assault victims say Air Force Academy uses mental health counseling to get rid of them

Mr. Davis,

You have made a very strong accusation: "Study, after study, after study shows that the vast majority of accusations of sexual assault, especially in a military context, are false accusations."

The implication of that statement is that the premise of the Sexual Assault Response and Prevention (SARP) program is fraudulent. To make such a public claim, I challenge you to produce three citations of quality academic publications to support your allegation.

You have also claimed that "complaining accusers were diagnosed with personality disorders. This is significant." Did you not carefully read the articles? These diagnoses were made without proper evaluations. You publicly condemn these individuals without any valid evidence of their mental health. That is incredibly irresponsible and cruel.

You are the manifestation of the hatred and hostility that these victims face. No wonder they are petrified to come out publicly.

How far are we from the days when it took one person to accuse another of insanity to lock them away in an asylum?

Re: “Section 8 voucher program applications reopen for lottery

What's the point in a voucher lottery when there is no affordable housing and the voucher promotes housing discrimination, racial profiling, and homelessness, equal opportunity housing means nothing when you are disabled living on section 8 and have a family,my house is being sold,we lived here 3 years, invested money in the yard ,because there was nothing but dirt and high weeds,we took care of the house as though it was ours, never ever late with rent and now no one will rent to us,I am stressed out to the max,we have money to move, but no one will rent to us.I can't sleep and barrel eat,I don't want my family to become another homeless statisic.
