Chief Carey put himself high on the "will never have to buy his own beer ever again" list with this one.

Re: “Colorado Springs marijuana-delivery man kills self, wife

Tejon Tech. You're a nut job. But that's ok, because you're in the majority.
You're part of the brainwashed masses who never question our society's incessant need to persecute people who we don't understand.
The punishment of incarceration does not fit the crime, whatsoever.
Dope didn't kill this man or his wife. The anxiety over being imprisoned and leaving his wife to fend for herself is what killed them.
Time to get your head out of the sand and visit reality.

While Mr. Bruce is entitled to his opinion, I'm thankful that most people don't feel that way. My granddaughter might not have been found in time if not for the help of concerned citizens. Thanks to all of the people involved in finding her.

Way to go Chief Carey! What a perfect response. We could use more quality, strong willed leadership in public service that is willing to stand for what is right. Nice work.

Reid is right - he's "the guy," the right choice to succeed Sheriff Maketa!

Re: “Sheriff race shaping up in El Paso County

I think Jim would brings another dynamic to the Sheriffs Office besides law enforcement. With his vast knowledgement in the fire service and homeland security among other things he could bring more understanding from the top law enforcement officer in the County when it comes to dealing with large scale events as we have had in the past several years.

Re: “Sheriff race shaping up in El Paso County

I'm glad you asked that question, Roland. Having worked with both Sheriff Maketa and Commander Reid, I believe I have a unique perspective on the job. The Sheriff's duties comprise much, much more than traditional law enforcement. Reid is a leader, and leadership is the most important quality I look for so that we can continue the programs Maketa has implemented in El Paso County. I hope you agree.

So - Bruce sent the emails to the Independent hoping to drum up some sympathy and support. Hmmm, looks like that backfired brilliantly. #epic_fail

Re: “Sheriff race shaping up in El Paso County

I also asked my friends in the ‘Know’ about Mr. Reid as sheriff candidate, it turns out Mr. Reid is quite highly respected as leader and professional in emergency operations and services. I found he is very highly regarded as an honest straight shooter. I have signed up as a supporter on Mr. Reid’s website. Mr. Reid please email me and let me know how I can be of service to you in your campaign for Sheriff.

Mr. Bensberg, THANK YOU for your service to our community, and enduring some voters wrath especially when they use fake names.

Re: “Sheriff race shaping up in El Paso County

I have to say, I am getting very intrigued by this thread. So, I started talking to some dear friends in the ‘Know’ to get some background about this Race. Apparently it starts with Mr. Todd Evans (currently the Police Chief for the City of Fountain), He ran against Sheriff Maketa in 2012. Evans dropped out of the Race citing health reason (usually political speak for ‘I don't want to get my Butt kicked). Evans recruits Mr. Bill Elder to run as the front man for Sheriff in 2014, because he Evans bowed out in 2012. The ‘Talk’ is with folks in the ‘Know’ is Evans will be Elder’s Undersheriff for one Term, and then he Evans will run for Sheriff. A grand deception apparently engineered by Evans and Elder, but really Evans is in-charge.
I also visited Mr. Elder’s web site (Not impressive) looking at the supporters list. I did not find Mr. Patrick Pine nor Mr. Mark Brown whom have been posting on this Thread/Blog.
I also did a special search on the internet. My conclusion is they are fake names, a cover for a very deceptive effort on behalf of the Evans/Elder campaign for sheriff.

Re: “Sheriff race shaping up in El Paso County

I also became aware that Miss Sarah Jack a respected, highly regarded long time successful republican Campaign Manager is the Evans/Elder’s Campaign Manager. Miss Jack, is rumored to be an item with highly respected, regarded and effective State Representative Mr. Bob Gardner (District 20).
I would hope with the position and status Mr. Gardner and Miss Jack hold in the community, they would not be willingly associated with the Evans/Elder grand deception.
The striking irony is the Evans/Elder Duo are running for the position of Sheriff. A position of high integrity and honesty. These two do not fit there, and please look into this further (Indy).

Re: “Magpul's next move

WOW, I don't think I've ever read such a bigoted, hateful, uninformed piece of writing in my life. I own a couple of those rifles that utilize Magpul products, including the standard 30 round magazines. I also posses a bachelor's degree from CSU, a masters degree from Regis University, all of my own teeth, my own home on my own land (both of which are clean, and not in any state of disrepair), only one cat, one dog, four horses and a pony, and my paid-for '03 truck does have an NRA sticker on it, as will the new one I replace it with later this year. And if you do some research, with actual facts, you would realize that I am more the rule, not the exception, when it comes to gun owners. And as a teacher, father, husband, and tax payer, I'd guess I'm what most would consider a productive member of society. And for some reason, when I grab my AR, and stuff a standard 30 round magazine, I don't start shooting kids, propane tanks, nor do I start butt-stroking three legged puppies. You see, I feel no evil at all, and this object does not take over my brain and make me do evil things. I guess mine is broken.

Bottom line, you are missing the whole point. Your bigoted rant was you own brain rationalizing your fear/hatred of an object. I can see from your passion that you really want to try to stop violence in our cities. I get it and I agree with you. However blaming/banning the object will not prevent crime, never has.

And I will offer that if you would like to find out more about these objects, I would be happy to provide you with information and links to reliable statistics and studies about this topic. Also, I'm in Elbert County, so I'm pretty close to you and I would be happy to take you to a range and let you shoot one of these rifles.

Re: “Best word for Paterno and family? Arrogance

The auther would be better served reading the Freeh report. The conclusions do not seem to relate to a report that absolves Paterno of any wrong doing. First, the report shows that Paterno forced Sandusky into retiring prior to the first report of abuse in 1998. Additionally, Paterno argued against Sandusky being permitted to bring kids onto campus, but was overuled in Sandusky's retirement agreement. The report also shows that PSU did not influence the police investigation in 1998, which found no evidence of wrong doing. Finally, regarding the 2001 report, which Paterno related to his boss and the head of PSU police, the report shows that the AD, after speaking with Paterno, decided on his own to stick with a course of action that the AD recommended prior to speaking with Paterno. All these facts are contained in the Freeh report.

Re: “Can Air Force Academy cadets become parents while enrolled? Apparently so.

This article is completely one-sided and misinformed. First of all, having a dependent is disciplinary, and unrelated to honor. Secondly, the rules state that you cannot have dependents - therefore by relinquishing your parental rights you meet that standard. Third, how could USAFA possibly enforce this standard in the same manner for both males and females?! Of course females who choose to keep their baby have to take a leave of absence, they would be unable to meet their duties as cadets while carrying a baby to term! It would be a waste of the "taxpayer dollar" to allow females to skirt required duties while they're pregnant. Males physically are not constrained in the same way expecting mothers are. Both male and female have the option to stay or to leave. Yes, women who don't want to take leave will have to give up their baby. That is not an Academy problem, it is biological. By your logic, cadets shouldn't have relationships for four years so they can reap the "full benefit of the taxpayer dollar." This idea is absurd, REAL LIFE happens and Cadet Sutton will probably learn a lot throughout this experience. In all likelihood, this will allow him to help future airmen who find themselves in a similar circumstance. Lastly, "them" moving into the new apartment in August doesn't mean that Cadet Sutton is living in the apartment. Cadets are in fact allowed off base when authorized, and many choose to spend time with local friends, families, and sponsors. Him visiting Amanda on the weekend is no different than Cadet X staying at a hotel over the weekend with his/her family when they're in town. I promise, restricting cadet access to having meaningful relationships outside the Academy HURTS their ability to create meaningful relationships as officers.

Cadet Sutton's education costs roughly $400k of the taxpayer dollar. This is a drop in the ocean compared to the money the Air Force spends on a daily basis, so if you're concerned about the federal budget I would suggest you write your senator and propose an alternative to the use or lose policy which we operate in.

Most of all, I suggest you look in the mirror and imagine being Amanda or Cadet Sutton. Of all the things they should be dealing with right now, you blogging their personal lives should not be one of them. I pray for your empathy, and their strength, focus, and growing love during this time.

Sincerely, '16

Re: “Peterson AFB launches commander investigation into religious display

Separation of Church and State means that the State will stay out of the business of Religion, not the other way around. The term came from Thomas Jefferson, and is not in any of the official documents of the founding of our country. The intent of the writers of the bill of rights was to assure the State never adopted an approved religion, not to limit those involved with the state from practicing their own religion. To remove this bible is tantamount to making the State Religion Atheism...

Re: “UPDATE: Mayor lashes out at Council staffer

Wouldn’t a friendly – but stern – phone call from the mayor directly to Culpepper reminding him of communications protocol have been appropriate as a “first warning?” Instead, the guy moves from Denver to take this position as council’s liaison just several weeks ago on Dec. 18th and is threatened with being fired over a matter that hardly seems insurmountable.

Just what the hell kind of culture has been created at City Hall??

Re: “Best word for Paterno and family? Arrogance

Cleary, you have an ax to grind with Paterno regarding your newspaper career. That being said, your lumping him and his family into Sandusky's exploits and stating that he let him "run rampant" around the campus is just a lie. Sandusky's retirement package that gave him access to campus facilities had nothing to do with Paterno. It was actually handled by the current INTERIM president Erickson, but you'd never know that unless you dig, which apparently you don't believe in doing. The family is justifiably upset that Paterno's name has been dragged through the mud by media like you that rehash the lies the Freeh Report claims involved Paterno. There are several investigations ongoing that have found serious flaws in the report which was used by the NCAA as the basis for the sanctions they have imposed on the University.
