Re: “Local health care activists face charges despite Sen. Cory Gardner’s apparent request to dismiss

Let us not forget the most important part of this whole story, these women are out there at Gardner's office fighting for our rights to health care while he fights to take it away! Everyone should be standing up thanking them and helping them every step of the way!

Re: “El Paso County Retirement Plan mulls request for extra retiree payment

REALLY??? Try being a low wage employee that will only get $1000 a month in social security benefits after working over 30 years here in the low wage paying Colorado Springs. These City/ State employees are so fortunate to get $18K a year in benefits, when so many other hard working full time employees wont get nearly as much. I worked as a Professional Photographer without any medical or paid leave for 7 years with a local business that barely would pay a living wage before being terminated to cut her employee budget since I was one of the highest paid employees under management at $9 an hour in 1997 so she could sell her photo lab business at a better equity rate .

On my current job, I barely get a raise every year and it hasn't kept up with the cost of living for the past 5 years. And if you couldn't afford to buy your own home when prices were low, the rent on a one bedroom apartment is now more than my mortgage on my two bedroom home. Maybe if Former Mayor Bach didn't give away millions to his buddies to retire, there would be more in the city budget to give you a raise. Good Luck with that!

"Mark Lowderman said, I dont think we leave our retirees in the dust.

Really? How can anyone retire on around $18,000 a year? I never realized it was that bad!!!

Re: “Tyler Walker added to 'Brady list'

Any reason why the list can't be published with the article? Would be nice to know how many on the list are still working in law enforcement!!!

Re: “Tyler Walker added to 'Brady list'

The cop should have the same think happen to his daughter, wife or mother (unless he already has done it to them himself) and every other cop on that floor should have this happen to their own family members. What no one seems to understand is that these pieces of crap are so out of control and except for surveillance held unaccountable for their actions They are immune to prosecution....look it up. As outlined by the Supreme Court in Harlow v. Fitzgerald, 457 U.S. 800 (1982), qualified immunity is designed to shield government officials from actions "insofar as their conduct does not violate clearly established statutory or constitutional rights of which a reasonable person would have known". The problem is proving it. The government has made it difficult to tear down these walls called immunity because it favors them also, the prosecuters, the judges, any public official. The only reason this woman was not raped as she lay on the floor bleeding was because of the video camera's. Cops love hiding behind that Thick Blue Line and it has to stop. Remember, that could be your wife, daughter or mother lying on that floor and maybe there won't be a video camera recording them for their safety.

Re: “T.R. Reid is still fighting for universal health care, along with groups across the country

Keeping/bearing arms is Constitutionally protecting by the 2nd amendment. Healthcare has no such protections, either federal or state. "Universal Healthcare" is a socialistic/communistic mindset with no place to lawfully or legally happen on this land of the United States of America. I completely refuse/reject that offer of contract!

Re: “Drake power plant shutdown costs estimated

I've been watching an orchestrated war on the poor/homeless for about 2-decades. The situation with Drake is a large part of that war. Perry Sanders (billionaire) wants Drake eliminated yesterday (reported in the Gazette around 2012). Those in his circles have no problem with a rate increase, or electrical controls that favor the wealthy. I'm beyond wore-out of the wrong folk running things. The increasing dilemma is this is going on nation-wide.
I thank Yahweh/YHVH for judging this system, in the name of Yeshua, Amen!

Re: “Springs Police consider reviving photo enforcement against red light runners

Simply do not contest it or send money. The camera will keep quiet and refuse to identify you as the driver. in fact the camera won't say anything. No witnesses or evidence (the camera was actually working correctly?) leaves only the hope you show up with the photo and then you will be intimidated into ponying up $75.
Imagine, someday a camera can send you to a private prison without a trial because there will be mandatory minimums but maybe you can make a deal and provide photos of other people appearing to be speeding or jaywalking. But to whom?
Curious to know the last time they had red light cameras how many captured on film the deadly collisions?
How many places are eliminating traffic signals completely and finding that collisions stopped and traffic flowed much more smoothly since people had to start watching out for their own asses for a change? If public safety is what they really want then try it. If it is cash they want then keep up the good work and the bad roads. And why is it when I travel the posted speed limit cars bunch up behind me? Doesn't make me feel too safe.

Re: “The mass eviction at Emerald Towers Apartments is just the tip of the iceberg

Even at Greccio, your gross monthly income has to be 3 TIMES the rent youre paying in order to qualify for their housing assistance. That means for that so-called affordable rent of $1,100/month, you need to be grossing $3,300/month. Even for a single person, if they found you a place for $700/month youd need to be making $2,100/month to be qualified. Impossible with the low-wage jobs here (average pay for an Executive/Administrative Assistant is $12-$13/hour. Thats if you have a college degree and some experience. If youre working as a 7-11 clerk, at minimum wage, forget it). Supposedly their waitlist is over a year long. What are people who fall under that limit supposed to do?

Re: “The mass eviction at Emerald Towers Apartments is just the tip of the iceberg

"employment is finally taking off in Colorado Springs"- another comment by the Indy that defies definition in the real world.
Not mentioned is zillow.com and its family of websites that are indiscriminately "valuing" rentals and houses across the country, sight unseen.
The neighborhoods off of S Nevada in decline or stagnating featuring numerous homeless persons standing around, riding bicycles accosting anyone that happens by is somehow sporting a new eatery with $45 rib-eye steak. This just a quick walk from homeless shelters which in itself is a business, do not kid yourselves. E. Cheyenne Road is still a rough road but cross Nevada Ave and you have smooth driving surfaces on W Cheyenne.
My landlord of many years suddenly wanted to double rent and our employer decides we are too old to be employed so our option is pay rent or eat, heat and light is optional.
zillow.com has uprooted 100s of Denver residents, so many that Denver is looking at rent control. Lifelong residents are forced to move and in-state is not an option. "Upscale" is the buzzword and assessor searches reveal investment companies are buying and over-paying for houses all around me. One house sold for $65k and one year later a Denver investment company buys it for $155k. Just one example...

Re: “The mass eviction at Emerald Towers Apartments is just the tip of the iceberg

Don't we have another problem in that middle class housing areas will NOT allow affordable housing in their back-yards? So if you have the money and permits, you still get solid opposition.

Fact .... the largest real estate developer in Denver, the Denver Housing Authority. They have built literally thousands of new, affordable units in the past decade.

Sorry Mr Wright you just don't get it ..... and the Springs suffers

About time for the regular calls for the city to sell off Utilities - from the usual suspects: Colorado Springs Forward or one of the large utility users - Chamber-EDC getting a new Chairman of the Board.

This city is sitting poised for a very prosperous tomorrow if we could only stop thinking so small. This eyesore of a plant needs to stop blighting the downtown area ASAP.
