Re: “Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson remixes prog-rock's past

Leaving hard rock came easy in 2005, jazz, country, the drum beat led them to an open door. Why? Myb college years were the lite when seeing, hearing the first tours by The Police, U2, ABBA, & the list began at my UC Davis' "Coffee House" west of Sacramento from 1977-1982. It went away after graduating into modern jazz. Red Rocks just ovee the Hogback produced great nites filled with grunge & replayed classic rock, bluegrass, & country but sadly it souumded the same. I needed change. Who gave me that? In 2004 at the Fillmore in Denver on my birthday,Jan 27. Mr. Bowie opened a new door for me. Easily a favorite show among many. I only wished why I hadn't seen his 3 notes here. What legend will do this? It was his performance, slong list & at stage event that made it crystal clear. He's giving us prog-rock. Small Denver & Boulder theaters became the venues for the proper priced events. There was a huge gap between the proper Bowie show & other big arena or Red Rock shows. Then by chance I learned about Porcupine Tree on 10/15, 2005, @ The Fox in Boulder. It was though Mr.Bowie had shined the lite in my eyes, mind, & ears. Steven Wilson & PT played to us in the smallest of Denver metro venues. I said this it, the years of music fun are all rolled together. I only wished to follow them but my job made it impossible. In 2007 PT returned to The Fox with their new album & world tour. Could this be, a UK prog-rock group wad shining the way. Steven did & continues to do as described & promotes. Then PT separated to give each member their time to play
Naturally SW made his move to do his thing & each of three groups. His talent, production, & style of giving his band mates their way to play. This is the key. This is why older bands come to SW fotr his remixes. Simply he listens & replies on the same frequency.
We see this when he plays to us. He literally waves & points to direct song-stage action. I'd really never seen this in 30+ years from the big Day on the Green events by Led Zeppelin. Plant & Page didn't have it so no wonder why a 50 year reunion is difficult.
I can see SW unite with PT & the complete slate with his legendary band remixes. He'll join with a larger variety than ever seen including all types if music. SW works his electronics taught to him by his father without an ego. His basement is the venue for the vast dominion. The question, will hw remix Mr. Bowie, Prince, ABBA, ahain the list can only grow. My belief is SW will create the Grammy catagory for best production. Will there be Sound Engineering degrees dedicate to him beginning in the UK then worldwide? As a PE from the the University of CA, the time is set. My UCD was the first to give degrees in viticulture, enology, & beer fermentation. The door is open for creative genius. SW will step back & NEVER show an ego. The award for his gift is the remixing of the growing list. SW told us he's not sure how long he'll continue writing & performing. He told us at the May 5th Ogden Theater show he'd play to 5,000 of us at Red Rocks next year in his new album tour if the City of Denver & the production company agrees. We applauded & cheered. I can only see the plus in it as an older Rock's customer. I'll be there regardless of who will or not hoping me.
Enjoy with an open mind...& heart.
