Re: “Medieval duel

I am the person pictured at the top of this article, and I would like to say I am offended that my image is attached to an article that I neither endorse nor agree with. While flavored with some small quantity of fact, this article is largely inaccurate, and constitutes an editorial more than actual news. I feel that the use of my image (and my image exclusively, as if singling me out) in association with this article is defaming to my character. With respect, I kindly request that my image be removed from this article.

Also, in response to "PirateLover," I would like to say this:

You said, "the Captain Jack from the past 2 years is being replaced by the one they had prior, as seen by the above photo."

I would like to point out that the photo used here is in fact an old photo, dating to 2006. Also, this article was written in 2008. Therefore, the photo was no indication of whether or not I would be returning to the festival this season. However, you were correct in your assertion that yes, I did accept the festival's offer to return for 2011.

You also said, "This Jack seems he is only in it for the glory and not very kid friendly or family friendly for the patrons of the faire."

To this I reply, how dare you? Quite frankly, I consider this out-and-out libel. You have no insight whatsoever into my motivations for returning to the Festival, and I would thank you not to speculate wildly upon the subject in an open forum, dragging my person through the proverbial dirt while you are at it. I left the festival after 2008 of my own volition for personal reasons, and I returned because I felt it was the best choice for me, given my present personal situation. That is my business, and utterly none of yours.

Furthermore, what evidence do you have to suggest I am "not very kid friendly or family friendly for the patrons of the faire"? This genuinely hurts me. I can assure you, there is nothing closer to my heart while performing at a festival than making a small child smile, or leaving a lasting impression on a family who have been looking for Jack all day just to have a few words and a picture. And yeah sure, it's an ego boost. Ask any actor, they'll tell you the same thing. But while I am in that costume I do everything within my power to make each individual patron's experience genuinely special. Shame on you for suggesting otherwise.

You also asked, "Why do they even have Captain Jack Sparrow anyway?? Isn't that a copyright infringement?"

Funny how you didn't bring up this subject in reference to the previous actor, only in reference to myself. But no, it isn't copyright infringement. Technically if the festival employed a "Captain Jack Sparrow" character it would be trademark violation. However, they do not. No one has ever called my character "Jack Sparrow" at the festival, and the character I play is designed as a parody of all Hollywood pirates, and of course, one in particular.

You also asked, "And why aren't Charming and Dashing coming back this year?"

To this, I will only point out that Charming and Dashing ARE in fact back this year, so you may want to check your facts a little more carefully before posting.

You also asked, "Will Iris and Rose have to suffer with skin cancer due to the lack of proper shading on that so-called stage they call the Pirates Pub?"

Iris and Rose chose to leave the festival after the 2009 season. They have not performed there for almost two whole seasons now.

There. That's all I have to say. Hopefully some of this sinks in for you, and maybe if I ever see you at the festival, PirateLover (an ironic screen-name if ever there was one), you will judge me based on my actual merits and not your preconceived notions. Cheers.
