Re: “El Paso County Sheriff's tax referred to November ballot

" The county said in a release the money will fund added patrol and detention deputies..."

But, it hasn't been true. We were told that the first time. The ranks of patrol deputies rose to around 100 with Maketa in office. Then Elder walked in. Now, there are around 60 patrol deputies. I used to see deputies in my area of the county nearly daily. Now, very rarely. Elder has squandered the money and used it for fluff positions for political supporters. He has provided no transparency on it.

Please, do NOT give him more money to squander. Because that is exactly what he will do with it.

Re: “Release of autopsy reports concludes official releases in Deputy Micah Flick shooting

Never were they trained in their academies or in-service training to "bear hug" felony suspects. Never. Ever.

Yet, they did it, with the tacit approval of their supervisor, and this is the end result. Pure incompetence.

Re: “CSPD report on Micah Flick's shooting portrays scene of chaos

"But the 10 members of the multi-agency Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement (BATTLE) task force didn't yell police before Deputy Scott Stone grabbed Zetina. Nor did they have visible police insignia showing or badges displayed, according to officers and witnesses interviewed by police that day."

And why is that so significant? It's significant because it shows the suspect didn't know he was being arrested. He legitimately thought he was being attacked. It means that his shooting of Detective Flick, and all of the others, was legally justifiable self defense. It means the incompetence of the officers and their supervisors cost Det. Flick his life.

It also means that when Sheriff Bill Elder went before the public and insisted that all of the officers were wearing law enforcement insignia and badges and identified themselves, that he was a flat out liar, although we've known that about him for a long time.

Please don't re-elect Bill Elder!!! His incompetence is costing people their lives!!!

Re: “Innocent bystander shooting injury termed “tragic” but not the fault of law enforcement

Pam, thanks for digging into this.

One BIG request for you. Can you please go after the KRW audit that Elder had done early in his term, paid for by taxpayer money? The first one was released, from when Maketa was in office. Elder had a new one done (and appears to have profited by it by getting a free vacation from a member of the company who Elder paid). But, now Elder won't release it. Those on the inside know it is because employees vented to the auditors about Elder's corruption.

CORA request please!!!

Re: “UPDATE: Micah Flick's fatal shooting: law enforcement experts comment on DA's report

Have to agree with the critiques of this one. EPSO Investigations has some good people, but the leadership is grossly lacking, due in large part by poor choices and political favors by Bill Elder.

The Commander, Richard Hatch, was brought in by Elder. Hatch's experience with EPSO saw him rise only to the level of Sergeant, before being demoted by Sheriff Anderson. Hatch quit in disgrace and went to work with the Dept. of Corrections until Bill Elder brought him back as a Commander.

The Lieutenant, Cy Gillespie, never worked in EPSO Investigations before being brought in as a Lieutenant, without even an interview, to replace Lt. Jaworski, who was forced to retire after calling Barack Obama a ni@@&$. Gillespie acknowledges he's not really detective material and refers to himself as more of a "bean counter."

Then there are the Sergeants. Tammy Gugliotti was promoted by Elder the day he walked in after being elected. No interview or process once again. No real street experience. She started in the jail, went through a brief Field Training program, then straight into the Civil Division serving papers. She went to Investigation from there.

Sergeant Jake Abendshan is short on experience and leadership as well. He's the one who took a round in the butt.

It really is time for Elder to go, or this department will continue to circle the drain and someday collapse altogether.

Re: “A deputy-caused crash, baby born in jail toilet, inmate's lost leg, and a brain injury among claims that could cost the county millions

Every department has a problem or two, and that's to be expected. But with EPSO, the problems just keep escalating and piling up. At some point, someone has to admit that it comes from the top, Bill Elder. He sets the climate for the department and his employees go along. Clearly, supervision is an issue, and that goes to the top.

We CAN'T re-elect the same guy and somehow expect different results. There is a way out... we can write in Mike Angley on the ballot in November. Please!!!

Re: “UPDATE: El Paso County commissioners eye sheriff's tax extension

"Originally approved by voters in 2012 and effective in 2013, it's due to end in 2020."

And it needs to end in 2020.

Until Sheriff Elder starts spending it for what the taxpayers were told it was to be spent on, it needs to end. It was supposed to go for more patrol deputies. The numbers swelled to around 100 deputies. Today, it's back down to less than 70. The same thing has happened in the jail. Elder continues to squander the money and used it for..... well, we don't know what he's spending it on.

"It's impossible to know how much was collected and spent under 1A based on Elder's 2015 report, however, because all revenues are lumped together."

And Elder has done that on purpose. The original proposal called for separate accounting, so we knew it was being spend properly. Elder doesn't want you to see where it is being spent. So.... take it back!
