A Hero's Life

When: Sept. 25-26 2010
www.csphilhamonic.org

Mozart may have been the puerile man-boy of his time (he once wrote a ditty called "Leck mich im Arsch" as a family joke), but his Abduction From the Seraglio makes classical seem sexy. It's a stirring intro to the Colorado Springs Philharmonic's 2:30 p.m. performance of Strauss' A Hero's Life, on this first weekend of the 2010-11 season at the Pikes Peak Center (190 S. Cascade Ave., csphilharmonic.org). We'd say the same about Aaron Copland if we could, but Appalachian Spring makes us think of Quakers. If you missed yesterday's 8 p.m. performance, you can still hear all three today for $19 if you order tickets by Sept. 24 through the Philharmonic's Pick 2 promotion; regular cost ranges from $16 to $55. — Claire Swinford
