A Sentenced Life

When: Thu., May 19, 7 p.m. 2016
Price: Free

"No reasonable person in contemporary America can watch that video and believe that the same thing would have happened to two young white men at the hands of the police." So begins the trailer for Rocky Mountain PBS News' documentary, A Sentenced Life, which is the third part of the station's "Race in Colorado" series and explores the racial disparities in our justice system. The video was recorded by a black man in 2015 after getting pulled over by two Colorado Springs police officers. Almost two minutes in, the man is pulled from the car and pushed to the ground before the camera shuts off. With videos like this, as well as testimony and input from experts, A Sentenced Life promises to be as poignant as it is educational. Tonight is the documentary's final screening before premiering on-air tomorrow. 7 p.m., Tim Gill Center for Public Media, 315 E. Costilla St., free, — Alissa Smith
