Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser and leaders of the three Colorado dioceses of the Catholic Church announced Feb. 19 that an independent third party will review the dioceses' files regarding sexual abuse of minors, interview witnesses and prepare a public report.

Due in the fall, it will name priests with substantiated allegations of sexual abuse of minors; list substantiated allegations, including assignments of abusive priests and the years during which abuse is alleged to have occurred; record the dioceses' response to allegations; and explain the current policies on abuse prevention and responding to accusations.

Though it's not a criminal probe, officials said if they discover unreported criminal conduct, they'll report it to law enforcement.
