Re: “The Earthships are coming

I'd feel pretty silly living in an earthship that I had someone else build for me. Kind of misses the whole point of those things.

Re: “Letters

Health Care Bill Reality? Just stating it as fact doesn't make this statement factual - "If the Affordable Care Act is repealed, it will add a trillion dollars to our deficit."

It is a common fallacy to believe that because the Fed government prints our money, it all belongs to them. It doesn't, it belongs to us.

It is true however that the 18 separate tax increases included in the bill will cost citizens trillions over the years. Combine that with the 800,000 jobs the CBO estimates the bill will cost, and it isn't a very cheery future.

Re: “Tough reality for Millennials

"They told us if we worked hard in school, got into a good college and graduated, the world would be our oyster."

I don't know of anyone that ever made that claim. It should have been more along the lines of if you "worked hard in school, got into a good college and graduated", you would increase your opportunities to be able to make something of your life.

Re: “Bad policy hatches toxic eggs

The only part of this whole rant that makes a bit of sense is the closing paragraph. People that depend on others (or the government in this case) to babysit every aspect of their lives are at the mercy of the incompetency of others. Make your own choices, buy from brands you trust, learn how to cook properly, and you won't have to be a victim nearly so often.

It remains to be seen in this case whether the free-market regulatory system (as opposed to governmental regulation) works as it should. If so, we'd probably see the company that caused the problem severely hit financially and possibly go out of business. If it was caused by misdeeds of that company, the individuals involved could also be hit with civil or criminal charges or lawsuits. Other companies will look at that outcome and make the decision to stay in business by improving their product's safety and quality, thus gaining more customers. End result, all eggs become safer for consumers.

For those worried that government regulation is really called for in food matters, you can rest easy. Mr Hightower's article to the contrary, the FDA already had new egg safety regulations scheduled to take effect in July.
