Re: “Degrees of separation

As an individual who attended Law School and Grad School after graduating from the Air Force Academy, I can say that based upon my experience, the concern for PHDs and other civilian accruments of academia is misplaced. I attended the Academy from 68 - 72, and I still believe that I was provided one of the best educational experiences available on this planet. I had a German instructor who had worked intelligence from the Potsdam Villa in East Germany, another who was a Lufwaffe officer who had served in the German Army as a 12 year old during the closing days of WWII, and numerous Engineering professors who had worked on key Air Force Space Programs. I didn't like all of my professors, but not one of them was inferior to professors that I later met in Law School and Grad School. The key to a great professor has never been how many PHDs and books they have, it has always been about "focus, experience, and the desire to educate" -- and the Academy has always excelled at that, no matter what some "experts" might say now.
