“Alpha The Musical” is a singer-songwriter from Colorado Springs. Her style is more of an interaction than a performance. With a story to tell, she expresses situations we all go through and brings it all together musically and soulfully. Alpha comes from a rich musical heritage, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Sly & The Family Stone. Her grandmother, Vet Stone, fronted the group Little Sister. Recently, My Black Colorado noted her as possibly the best singer in the Colorado area! Alpha is continuing her music legacy by exploring and expounding on new ground. Progressively moving ahead with her own flavorful sounds of modern folk, pop, soul — all authentically her! Go see the musical!

Essential Sunday morning listening: “Apples” by My Brightest Diamond is the ideal Sunday morning song. I became obsessed with My Brightest Diamond after falling down a YouTube hole and finding La Blogothèque. Shara Worden did a version of “Be My Husband” and I was hooked.

First record I bought with my own money: Audio Adrenaline’s Hit Parade. I remember because I loved the song “Some Kind of Zombie.” I wanted something to “rock out” to and it needed to be Christian so, I won haha. “Chevette” was my cruising music when I finally was able to drive.

“Wish I’d written that” song: “Love Interruption” by Jack White. The lines “I want love to, walk right up and bite me, grab a hold of me and fight me, leave me dying on the ground” made me literally scream. I could feel my heart jumping out of my chest because that’s how I wanted love to make me feel. Also, “Beautiful Ones” by Prince but like, duh right?

“Wish I could unhear that” song: Hahaha omg. “A Lot” by 21 Savage. It’s such an awful song. It sounds awful, the lyrics are basic and awful, the beat makes me feel... rage. How much does this song suck? A lot. I could spend a good 30 minutes talking about how absolutely horrible this song is. I rage change the radio station when it’s on. I feel like the song goes out of its way to make me a bad driver.

My latest online discovery: Anderson.Paak, he is a SICK rapper. I like him a lot. He’s got this song called “Bubblin” that I really like. Oooh, I also found this dude on Facebook. He’s hilarious. His name is uh, MrantDavis. Absolutely check out his videos. I love when someone can be funny without the use of profanity.

Artist more people should know about: I don’t know if it’s fair to pick one LOL. Um, I’d have to say Antony and the Johnsons. Not really a band for anyone who likes anything normal, LOL. Antony is this wonderfully strange being that seems to be in physical pain when performing. Their voice is absolutely brilliant and haunting. They have incredibly interesting song titles.

Guilty pleasure: If I had to pick I’d say anything by Beyoncé. She’s not my favorite artist, and I’ve had many a conversation about her contradictory lyrics and social stance. I would never crap on her voice because it’s amazing. I’m very intrigued by the notes she chooses in her runs. I just want to have a sit-down conversation with her about why she seems like a robot.
