"An Evening of Truth and Justice"

When: Wed., March 2, 7 p.m. 2016

Alex Landau was "almost another black dead male" after Denver police officers were finished brutally assaulting him on a winter evening in early 2009. Photos of the then-19-year-old's bloody and mangled face are so shocking and gruesome they're unforgettable. His "crime"? An illegal left turn. His prior criminal record? Non-existent. A featured StoryCorps storyteller (watch the animated short "Traffic Stop" at storycorps.org), Landau has been advocating against racism and police brutality ever since. In the wake of so many incidents of cops shooting young black men across the country, his story couldn't be more relevant. Hear him tell it, and discuss his advocacy work, tonight for "An Evening of Truth and Justice," accompanied by CSU-Pueblo poets Samantha Cush and Jibrail Dibble. 7 p.m., Colorado State University-Pueblo Library and Academic Resources Center 109, 2200 Bonforte Blvd., 719/549-2451. — Vanessa Martinez
