Annapurna nails new flavors, and Shame and Regret opens in former 15C downtown

Our Indy food team has previously fawned over the quality of locally produced Annapurna Mead, a standout among many others in a growing market segment. Just recently at 503W, we sampled new low-ABV cocktails, the Pineapple Cobbler and Ashes to Ashes, both of which incorporate Annapurna’s Sauvage Mead Blanc. That mead is perfect for a “light cocktail that needs a little bit of effervescence,” says 503W co-owner Emillio Ortiz. We concur.

Shame and Regret opened this past week in the alleyway at 15C E. Bijou St. The hideaway features an ample collection of spirits with an emphasis on scotch, unique wines and “throwback hors d’oeuvres done up,” says Josh Kelly, corporate chef for downtown restaurateur Joe Campana (who has partnered here with his former general manager at the Rabbit Hole, Matt Baumgartner). Menu items include classics revisited with beef tartare, scallops wrapped in bacon and Scotch eggs. Enjoy the fare beneath mysterious and bold artwork by local artists Brett Andrus and Phil Lear amidst high-back, wraparound leather booths. The enigmatic pieces evoke an emotional connection to the establishment’s name, while secret cupboards and cutouts throughout the building generate an exciting yet haunting vibe. “We’ve gone above and beyond to make it something incredible,” says Kelly.
