Re: “SWAT officer wounded in shootout, suspect dead

Good grief, it was a Sheriffs deputy not a CSPD Officer; at least use he correct badge.

Re: “Sergeant alleges backlash for reporting sexual harassment, supporting sheriff’s opponent

Ferguson, you are wrong. A couple of command staff with take home cars doesnt impact the bottom line. Attrition doesnt effect the fact our agency is not adequately authorized manning slots to begin with. Even if every single slot was filled with a body we still would not be close to having a daily number of deputies on duty to serve the roughly 200,000 citizens in unincorporated EPC. The EPSO is WOWFULLY underfunded and understaffed. It comes down to authorized manning and the authorized manning for the EPSO is extremely limited for the size of population. This has nothing to do with Elder, it has everything to do with the BoCC not funding and staffing our agency commensurate with this being 2018. Now, Elder did indeed surround himself with relics of the past, Breister and Shannon and others who for some nonsensical reason dont believe we need more POSITIONS.

Our agency will not progress until progressive leaders are in place. Elder did the absolute correct thing removing the POST certification requirement moving forward for our jailers; they are not cops, they do not need POST, and this practice has cost our agency a CONSIDERABLE amount of wasted money and positions since the mid-90s.

Elder may not be perfect, but this POST thing is 100% a step in the right direction.

Re: “Sheriff Elder fires Duda, after he tells Indy about political "retaliation"

Well...maybe a Democrat Sheriff would actually work to staff our agency in such a way that reflects the number of people we serve. The Republican establishment in EPC has had their heads in the sand (including Elder, Breister, etc) for far too long and now both the citizens and the deputies are paying a price for that.

Angley didnt work out as a change agent...maybe a Democrat will?

Re: “El Paso County jail deputies might get less training, Sheriff Bill Elder says

Roy, it is not discrimination, it is a process. Just because it is different than how they've always done it doesn't make it wrong. This change, in fact, is something your own candidate, Mike Angley, proposed, so not sure what you're so upset about. It makes zero financial or organizational sense to POST certify personnel who don't work in a position where POST is needed or mandated.

Eventually, the EPSO will run jailer academies and separate street cop academies...why? Because the two jobs are as far apart as the other side of the moon. Welcome to the future Roy.

The current crop of POST certified jailers will be given an opportunity to transfer to Patrol; once those of them who desire to do so AND can pass the selection process (remember, being a street cop is infinitely more demanding, both mentally and professionally, than handing out toothbrushes and making sure inmates dont fight and, as such, not all of those jail deputies will make it) then the EPSO will begin hiring recruits straight to Patrol after their POST academy graduation. This is happening and it is way, way too late to have been done so.

You yourself never actually utilized your POST certification as you never left the jail, so all of the money the county spent on you for that POST certification was a gigantic waste; multiply hat by the many hundreds and hundreds of deputies over the years who limited their careers to jail and C&T and you have a financial windfall the county could have used to do so many other positive things with the EPSO. Sad.

Re: “Sergeant alleges backlash for reporting sexual harassment, supporting sheriff’s opponent

Facts: you are spot with those facts; HOWEVER, our AUTHORIZED staffing is grotesquely too low to begin with. The 1A tax sunsets, yet it (and much more) is PERMANENTLY needed. We are in a literal sense of the phrase in the dark ages when it comes to funding and manning, even WITH 1A. There are bigger challenges that do not have a resolution for the EPSO because no one in power (Sheriff OR the BoCC) wants to publicly admit it.

Re: “4th of July fireworks rampant in the area despite fire restrictions

All area LE agencies are grossly underfunded and undermanned. Dont forget that on Jul 4 all area agencies had to deal with their typical summertime calls for service in addition to fireworks calls; its not as if local officers and deputies were sitting around twiddling their thumbs.

If the citizens of this metro area desire more responsive and proactive LE agencies, then that will cost money, something our admittedly nice low property and sales tax rates dont support.

Re: “Sergeant alleges backlash for reporting sexual harassment, supporting sheriff’s opponent

John Foster, you are literally retarded. The rank and file of the EPSO, some 600+ strong, live and breathe our mission and the Constitution daily; EXTREMELY proud of what we do despite the pitiful funding and manning our citizenry provides.

Its the political leadership that act like disgusting, arrogant, entitled, childish fools. Dont confuse the two...
