Re: “Medieval duel

Shocking.

Without decent crafters, one of whom I have been part of for 15 years with a unique product no one else in the US on the road can possibly make a living from... and I have hundreds of emails to say that these kind of festivals change people's lives... can hold up this article with any truth at all.

Of course the entertainment is going downhill. The Festival will not pay. Cheap local entertainment will never go the distance. Most Faires have tried that one. It's an old and sorry trick.

Go to the festival people! See things you will see that are handmade and not from Walmart. Any owner willing to give into taking booth fees from cheap overseas products should be ashamed of themselves.

This article seems to suggest that Rennies are stinky people with awful morals. We are living a creative life force that is admirable and we are creating something that America is lacking: a dying sense of community. Too many Festival owners have one common issue: they are not in the least bit cultured, they are not creative at all and they look to the almighty $ with increasing fees, yet still complain bitterly.

I once did that festival many years ago with a tiny weeny shoppe and had to pay not only booth fees of $2000 come rain or shine with no return if every day was a rain out, camping fees and was forced to pay a percentage of all my gross money to the local Mayor on a once weekly basis. Oh let's not get into the $s spend on gas and car depreciation on the way there and back.

We do own soap people, dreads are often clean since we do take showers actually, drunks will show up at your 9 - 5 jobs anywhere in the world and we do not show up drunk when we are professional people wanting our wares of our stage work to bring joy to you.

After all these fees paid out, to not push out all we have for your viewing entertainment pleasure, unless we are 18 or so, are not the party going drug crowd you/the festival/newspaper are suggesting. Get clued in.

We love the public, not for the money but for the interaction, what they give back to us as honest artists, as we do for them in other ways. Why take away magic?

All this is doing is killing creativity and also hurting the owner. Hippies we could be called but a ton of us actually do use deordorant daily, make it our living to live outside of the realm of banal and actually some us make quite a bit of dough in the processif we are good. Articles or fees will never ever stop creativity or us being the biggest community in the US with true free thinking.
