It would be great if the group currently billed as ATLiens was actually Big Boi and Andre 3000 deciding to reunite after scoring a couple of knockoff MF Doom masks and off-brand hoodies at an Atlanta garage sale. No such luck.
While they did lift their name from Outkast’s second album, the ATLiens that’s out on the road at the moment is, instead, a pair of bass deejays who have received prominent billing at the Electric Daisy Carnival and are known for restricting interviewers to questions that can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no.”
It’s an air of cartoonish mystery that has, if anything, helped raise their profile, as has their track “Interlock,” a collaborative effort with Bassnectar, released on Skrillex’s OWSLA label, in which a down-pitched voice alternates between completely garbled syllables and the creepy refrain “Let me be your mom.” Ecstasy, apparently, works in mysterious ways.
