Ben Nichols

When: Tue., June 14 2016

With lyrics like "In my hands, I hold the ashes / In my veins, black pitch runs," Lucero frontman Ben Nichols won't be landing placements in Toyota commercials anytime soon. But his song "The Last Pale Light in the West," did grace an episode of The Walking Dead. It's also the title track of a seven-song solo concept EP based on Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, which isn't especially cheerful either. So will Nichols' acoustic set at the Black Sheep capture the more buoyant elements of the country-punk band he's led for the past two decades? Most likely not, but it's still a must for Lucero fans who don't mind a little extra bleakness in their lives. 7 p.m., 2106 E. Platte Ave., $10 in advance, $12 at the door, all-ages, — Bill Forman
