Ireland, by way of Pueblo? Sure, we’ll take it.

The space has hosted a café and a straightforward Irish pub since it first became a food business around 1940. So there’s some history there. When we visit, it’s not for the menu, which we lauded when last we visited, but for a couple quick pints.

At a recent trip to fellow Puebloans Solar Roast Coffee, we had Shamrock’s Irish porter reduced to a syrup as part of a coffee drink, so we go for a pint of the thing itself. And good lord, is it delectable, balancing a moderate roast with a fruity tartness and a creamy body that’s sizable but not huge, eminently drinkable and reminiscent of Guinness I recall drinking in Dublin, but with a thicker body.

Going heavier, a 12-ounce pour of the ruddy amber-colored BIG PAPA imperial IPA that clocks in at 9.6-percent ABV manages to be neither too sticky nor too boozy. The hops lead fruit and citrus notes over big malt, neither of which linger too long on the back end.
