The most interesting thing we found on the website of Pasadena-based pizza chain Blaze Pizza is the franchising agreement: like potato chips, you can’t have just one. Franchise owners are explicitly required to commit to building between three and 10 Blaze Pizza restaurants in a two- to three-year period. This Powers spot opened in early December 2017; it’s likely we’ll see more in the future — not a bad thing, since the food rates decent. They do the build-your-own, unlimited-toppings thing adopted by locals Bambino’s Urban Pizzeria, building them on thin, made-in-house crusts. A signature green stripe pizza ($7.95) comes with mozzarella, chicken, roasted red peppers and garlic under arugula and pesto. There’s nothing amazing — the arugula lacks any peppery bite — but it’s filling, cheap and relatively healthy. Local wins. One eye-catcher: matcha agua fresca ($1.95), balanced between sweet and bitter, redeems typically foul iced green tea.
