A decade after the release of their critically acclaimed Furr album, Portland alt-country stalwarts Blitzen Trapper are touring behind the thematically linked Wild and Reckless, a slightly off-kilter Americana album on which Eric Earley continues to channel his inner Bruce Springsteen for an audience that’s still young enough to stand up through an entire club set. This ninth studio album from the 2013 MeadowGrass headliners grew out of a science-fiction rock opera they staged in tandem with a hometown theater company. Appropriately enough, the music often harkens back to the group’s artsier early days, when the slanted-and-enchanted experimental bent of lo-fi bands like Pavement was still reverberating throughout the indie-rock world. And to add yet another reason for celebration, the show coincides with the birthday of MeadowGrass director Steve Harris, so raise a glass if you’re so inclined.
