Re: “Cyclists say their lives are at risk from road-raging motorists

A bike is an amazing machine that exercises the body and mind. You can smell the bakery as you pass it, feel the air rush past your face, or even wave at other cyclist as you pass them. I haven't been on a bike in ten years, however this summer I was able to go to Belgium and stayed at an Airbnb that came with 2 Dutch bikes. I couldn't believe how amazing it felt getting on the bike and riding along the canals to the beach. I felt like a kid again! (there the bike lanes are separated by a hedge or several feet from the street and if they are next to traffic the lane is clearly marked and respected). Anyway, when I got back to the states I bought a Dutch style bike and have been riding into town from Old Colorado City almost everyday. Typically, the only time people are aggressive is near the interstate. The city has some clearly marked bike lanes crossing I25, but the lanes suddenly end downtown. I think if we put some cops on bikes things might start to change. $500 for a nicely equipped bike that keeps the police engaged with whats going on or $40,000 for suv with the latest lights and gadgets.
