Re: “Grocer X: Don’t let me sell you craft beer

I think the better question is who are you and why are you anonymously commenting about my personal life on a months old article about beer?

Re: “Grocer X: Don’t let me sell you craft beer

This sounds like a very similar argument I've heard for years about wine and liquor in my home state of New York. Here in the Empire State, we CAN buy full strength beer in grocery stores, but wine and liquor sales are relegated to specialty shops. The argument here when it comes to wine and liquor in grocery stores is generally about big retailers crushing smaller ones, though, and not about how it will affect selection. Being able to buy beer in the grocery store here certainly has not hindered choice. Even the little local deli next door to my apartment in Brooklyn carries a pretty impressive stash of craft beer ranging from local stuff (Sixpoint, Kelso, Brooklyn Brewery, Bronx Brewery, Bluepoint, Captain Lawrence) to craft brewers nationwide (Bell's, Uinta, Sierra Nevada, Goose Island, Stone, Dogfish Head, Harpoon, Rogue, etc., etc.)

Up in my hometown of Buffalo, NY we have a very popular grocery store chain called Wegman's, and their craft beer selection is downright incredible! In fact, a few years back they moved the bulk food section to give craft beer its own prominent place in the store. Hundreds of breweries on display with nary a macrobrew in sight. The Buds, Millers, and Coors remained hidden away in the walk-in cooler.

This isn't unique to Wegman's, either, or even New York State. Lots of grocery stores of all sizes are devoting more and more aisle space to craft beer as its popularity grows. Here in the state where one can buy beer in any grocery store 20 hours out of every day, 7 days a week, choice isn't diminishing; it's growing.
