Broadmoor applies for Hall expansion

The Broadmoor has applied to expand its Broadmoor Hall to the west on Lake Circle, replacing a tent structure used for overflow exhibits during the Space Symposium and other major events. The addition would cut into informal parking but the application notes additional off-site parking, such as at the Broadmoor World Arena, is available via shuttle.

The new structure's cupolas would rise above the 45-foot limit, which led the resort to seek a waiver for height. High winds caused "severe damage" to the tent and exhibits and forced the tent to close for 24 hours amid the 2018 Space Symposium, the application says.

A public meeting on the plan is slated for 5:30 p.m., Jan. 31 at The Broadmoor's Cheyenne Lodge, 4199 S. Club Drive. The request is being handled via administrative review, meaning it wouldn't go before City Council unless the staff decision is appealed. The Broadmoor's application says no day-long events, such as home shows, would be held there.
