Bustang opens new routes in southern Colorado

On Jan. 2, the Colorado Department of Transportation extended regional bus services to communities along U.S. 50 between Lamar and Pueblo.

The state's regional bus system, Bustang, launched in 2015. It has routes between Colorado Springs and Denver, Fort Collins and Denver and Glenwood Springs and Denver.

This addition, however, will be called Outrider, and will run daily from Lamar (at 7:10 a.m.) to Pueblo (at 10:15 a.m.) and from Pueblo (at 3:45 p.m.) to Lamar (at 6:48 p.m.). Stops along the way include Fort Lyons, Las Animas, La Junta, Swink, Rocky Ford, Manzanola and Fowler.

A one-way ticket between Pueblo and Lamar costs $21 (less for shorter trips) and the handicap-accessible buses feature restrooms, bike racks, free Wi-Fi (where available), power outlets and USB ports.

CDOT plans to add a Bustang route between Colorado Springs and Pueblo later this year. It tentatively also plans to expand Outrider this summer between Alamosa and Pueblo, Gunnison and Denver and Durango and Grand Junction.
