Re: “The tick and the time bomb

Hooray for you, to do this. After 5 months, having the textbook bullseye that was treated with the wrong antibiotic, keflex, at the ER. first tick titre neg. 3 other painful red areas diagnosed as cellulitis, possible clot behind knee.2 fluid sacs found, one blood and one other fluid. keflex, bactrim, again. And darvon and prednisone for pain. when I called to say nothing was relieving the pain. 4 months later they started doxycycline for 2 weeks and another titre was done with results my doc said highest she had ever seen. results weren't back till I was done with doxycycline. 4 days later the doxycycline was restarted with the result in 4 days of itchy rash. Weekend, so I called pharmacist & he said it was something that happened with restart of doxycycline. I now have a doxycycline allergy on my record and I know that was because of the break in treatment. 3 weeks of amoxicillin ordered. this is 4 months into this. A month later still had leg muscle pain, to knee and starting at hip. Sometimes couldn't walk. At physical it was suggested that maybe it was my prosthesis knees. And I was given arthritis med. Next day I couldn't walk again Called clinic to see ortho doc. Xrays & bone scan showed no problem with my prosthesis's. I knew is was up to me so googled "lyme disease support groups." Got ahold of wonderful people who knew what I had to do. We are into 5 months by now. Saw lyme literate doc, taking a long trip. He was wonderful. Started me on the right antibiotic and as with the first try, with the right one it starts to work right away. I am on this now for 2 months with great results. Almost no symptoms anymore. I can't imagine what would have happened to me if I had not decided to take this into my own hands. Just think what this has cost my insurance when a 3-4 week session on doxycycline would have ended this right away. I probably will be on it for many months as it is now in my blood system. This spirochete can get into any organ it wants. What is with our medical system. Why aren't they learning. I wrote to the docs that were involved and asked them to inform their collegues. I also wrote to my local paper to inform my neighbors, and friends. to be aware. Can we get this to the mecical profession???
