Re: “Out with the old

Kudos to Bill Kenline and all that he has done for the area, regrettably having sensible and caring small business owners pushed out by bigger concerns should not be viewed as progress. The CS City Council and the South Nevada Merchants would do well to look at some of Mr. Rhue's past "accomplishments" and "progress", now with the benefit of 20 years hindsight. How quickly time erodes the memory ... as a refresher, I offer up the now almost completely vacant "Citadel Crossing" complex on the southeast corner of Academy and Chelton, one of Mr. Rhue's earliest "successes". And it was very busy for many years, however viewing it in its current state with no viable large cornerstone tenants and as of early 2006, the current owner saying a revamp isn't necessary, one should be asking the question "how many more suburban atyle outposts of asphalt and concrete do we need?" This plan looks like so many other suburban shopping plans of the last 15 years, is it really going to add to the character of the area? Or lay the foundation for another largely unoccupied shopping complex standing vacant in 18-20 years from now. Granted, the Crossing is roughly 7 times larger built to cater for larger tenants, however, prudence dictates the financing backing this project be checked .. carefully. And in this trying time, building business fronts for small business owners that can't get financing may in the end suit only one end, that being Mr. Rhue's.
